Forster & Garbus LLP misleading abusive debt collector Commack New York

I went to my city court where the summons was filed and learned it was real. I provided them with a copy of my letter to Forster & garbus, that i had sent certified, requesting them to provide proof of this debt. Other than the return notice that they had received my letter, I have received nothing from them proving i owe the debt. The court took this letter as proof of me responding to the summons.

The court provided me with the statement of the process server- nothing i can do about it but he lied. I found the summons stuck in my door. Other than a child under the age of 18, i live alone in a single family home. The server stated they served the papers to my "co-tenant", as if i live in an apartment or multi-family home. They even gave a description of the woman they gave the papers to- and it sounded a lot like a neighbor, who i've seen but do not converse with and she certainly wouldn't know my name.

In the meantime, i have been paying $20/month to Fingerhut to attempt to pay the debt (total balance was over $900 and i just couldn't pay this amount all at once). I have heard nothing further from Forster & Garbus, so at this point my assumption stated above was true- they're literally just a ruthless debt collector. 

Either way, if you receive a summons- respond to it through the court. Do not ignore it. The court informed me that anyone can file a summons and if you ignore it- it's the same as saying you're guilty and they can and will file a judgement against you.
