This started on the infomercial on TV. I should have gone straight to the website and I would have had more control.
On the first part of June of this year, my attention was drawn to an infomercial wherein the GTXpress 101 cooking unit was the object of promotion. I owned one of those items in the past but eventually got rid of it due to the disappearance of Teflon. But I liked the modified product in that the divider was now an insert over a flat area, giving one the option of using either the divider or flat surface. Included in that promoton were other parts to add to the product which could be bought on a monthly basis with the choice to "cancel at anytime".
Sounds good. But guess what! I called into the program and ordered what I wanted and because I could not talk to a human, found myself in a sea of deception. That meant that while I was being caught off guard, I said "yes" to the non-human too often and realized that what startred out to be $35.00 was inside the first month's promotion at $96.60. It was then that I ralized what was going on. I began to say "no" to the bunch of metal and said it several times, only to be challenged by this lovely bunch of bolts and nuts.
This comapny in the past took orders via a real human and then I could back up and clear up any quesitons. But that didn't happen with this cold metal designed to prevent anyone from backing out. Not only that, but they don't have to pay for humans who take the orders.
Inside the computerized sales pitches was a statement giving me the option to "canel at any time". The telephone number was given for that purpose. When I realized what was happening, due to sales progression being too fast for me, I jotted down the number, hung up, and called back. When the HUMAN operator answered the phone, I said "I want to cancel my order". The nice person asked me when did I placed the order. I said "just a few minutes ago". The nice person informed me that I would have to wait twenty-four hours and then call back. That allowed time for the order to come to view. Twenty-four hours passed and I called back and told another human who answered the phone, that I wanted to cancel my order. I was told that I could not cancel the order because I "agreed" to the purchase (in spite of the promise that I could "cancel at any time").
A verbal battle ensued and during that time I was told I could refuse the package. I hung up and in two days the package arived and I took it directly to the post office and refused it. I kept the receipt of refusal from the post office for my own protection. At this time I contacted my credid card company. After some investigaton, they sent me a letter and informed me that they could not legitimately protect me from the purchase charges, but that out of courtesy to me they would approach the company in my behalf.
More than a month later, my credit card company informed me that I received a credit of $64.50. What the company didn't tell me was they would keep $32.10 for (I'm assuming) shipping and handling costs.
I contacted my credit card company and warned them that further charges would be forthcoming in the months to come for more products because I apparently "agreed" to them. (Remember, I could "cancel at any time".) My card company simply blocked my credit card and issued another card in order to protect me from further unwarranted charges.
Three statements (three months) later, I have yet to receive the credit on my credit card statement. The last statement indicated that the problem was solved. It isn't solved until I get my credit.
