Last year after purchasing my home that came with all GE appliances my dishwasher, dryer, microwave and stoe all had problems within 3 months. Took repair over 3 months to fix. This year now the washing machine goes out. GE couldn't get a different company to repair. In the meantime I had water damage. Every week GE employess stated that they have the option to do a locate that took up to 48 hours to find a repair facility. I called every week and got a different person. Everyone that answered gave me the same answer. They needed another 48 hours to do a locate. 3 weeks go buy and they advised they cannot repair so they need to do a buy back.
I was advised now to cut the cord and send that along with the serial number tag. That was done. Weeks go by no responce. Every week I called and spoke to a supposed supervisor. Some even gave me ID numbers but the next time I would call, I was told that no one by that name or names ever worked there and those ID numbers don't mean anything. Was told by a Robert that it's a mess in the backroom with all the cords all over and he wanted to get this resolved. He never called back and after 1 week I was advised by GE that no one by that name ever worked there.
Its now been approx 3 months. GE will not settle or stand behind their products. This department is worse then their auto warranty department which years ago I was able to visit. Service contracts stuffed in bins, just a complete disaster and no one cared about the consumer. Please note that if you where a good manager for GE and got the claim approved and paid it within months appeared you would loose your job with GE.
As far as GE appliances, a class action suit needs to be brought on. GE assumes that their name is all they need to stay in business and consumers are just idiots. There is no loyalty from GE. In fact I even checked with repairmen to see if I could get the washer fixed. Even they gave up for any repairs for GE. They all expressed that GE couln't care less about the consumer. I will never want a GE appliance or anthing else in my home with the GE name. I ended up puchasing a Maytag Product, appears no one has a problem for service with that name. I won't buy a home with GE appliances. Recently I looked at some new homes and the builders brag about the home having GE appliances. After I hear that, it's a turn off to the rest of the home, probably bigger junk then the appliances. Consumers are not fools. If GE offers a 1 year warranty then the need to step up to the plate and take care of the customer.
For a consumers protection, don't consider GE for anything, you will just be the next victim posting your complaints on this site. 1-800-GECARES.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
You are NOT describing the GE I know
AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, November 11, 2006
I retired from GE-Energy two years ago. Not GE Appliances.
Our six year old GE clothes washer failed its motor coupling early Sunday Morning, 27 Aug 06. I called GE Service at 10 AM Sunday and the service computer "answered". I went through the menu to report my problem, and a repairman was scheduled for Monday AM, 28 Aug 2006. The repairman called on his cell phone at 8:05AM Monday to confirm where we were, and he arrived at 8:15 AM. He installed a new two-speed direct drive motor and left by 9 AM. The machine performs better than new- just as the repairman promised! Pretty good service, I would say.
So if I had your problems I would contact GE. I know Jeff Immelt would be unhappy to hear about your problems, and if Jeff isn't happy, nobody at GE will be happy.
