I responded to an ad on Lycos on someone wanting to find a home for African Grey Parrots. When I received an e-mail the facts did not totally match the ad.

Sandy Reilly claimed she was moving to VT and needed to find a home for 2 African Greys soon. She was willing to give them away if someone would just pay the freight to get them shipped.

Then I was called and e-mailed by Global Animal Movers saying I should wire $300 via Western Union for the shipping. But the wire went to Costin Ciocica. Western Union did ask for the company name.

When the birds were already supposed to be on the plane, I got another e-mail saying the insurance had expired on 8/17 and the birds could not be shipped until I wired $2000 for insurance, but that $1950 of it would be refunded to me when the birds were delivered to my door.

Meanwhile, I am being showered with e-mails from Sandy Reilly. Both she and the company called and e-mailed repeatedly to get me to wire the money, which I refused to do.

Then I researched several sites and putting pieces together from all of them, I finally got the picture. This scam evidentally started in South Africa, getting only shipping charges from people to save rare/endangered/soon to be euthanized animals. Then the insurance thing was sent. Probably these animals--and my African Greys--never existed.
