In 2013, me and my fiance went down to Virginia Beach for a vacation. While there we were approached by Gold Key. Gold Key managed to promise us the moon and even the stars and we fell victim. We purchased a timeshare from them. Since we don't travel with large sums of cash, we were told they would pay for our room if we agreed to buy the timeshare and when we came back in a month, we could pay them. With us planning for our first child we thought, how great would it be for our son to be able to have something like this when he is older that we can pass down to him. That idea sold us alone. One month later, we rent the car, drive 13 hours and get down there to find out they have no room availability for us anywhere in Virginia Beach. We ended up having to pay for our own room and all they offered was a $50 gift card for our inconvenience of renting a car and driving 13 hours (one-way). My sister was with us and tried to talk us out of the timeshare but we were blinded by wanting something to pass down to our son. I wish I would of listened to her. She even got into a verbal altercation with the guy at Gold Key to defend us. I wish I would have of listened to her and I hope you will listen to me. When we signed the papers and handed over the cash as our down payment, they stated that our "deed week" meant nothing and we could vacation at any time! When we received our deed from the Princess Ann Title Agency on behalf of Gold Key, it was for a Winter week which we did not sign up or pay for. Who wants to go to the beach in the Winter? So we called them and they managed to change our week. Then all of sudden, all of these misc. charges starting appearing. They wanted hundreds of more dollars in addition to our monthly payment and if they didn't get it, they would threaten to cancel our planned vacation. Not only do they have a horrible customer record but they cannot keep sales agents. Our sales agent was Jasper. He is no longer with the company. We've asked to cancel our time share and the only way out is to sell our time share and the person we sell it to has to be Gold Key approved. Why would I put this nightmare in someone Else's hands? We've had this since 2013 and haven't enjoyed one vacation yet and paid thousands into this already which is why it's taken so long to make a decision to just let this hit my credit report. It's worth bad credit to re-gain my sanity. Do not be a victim! Do not invest with Gold Key! Not to mention the customer service is great when they want your money but if you need assistance with finding a hotel or resort, you are lucky if they get back to you at all.

owning a timeshare unit means you need to read the user manual and plan on using the unit or deposit with ii and exchange for other places to Gaston. Owned with gold Key for 15 years, never had and issues, good coustomer service, and good value for my money. Knowing how to use a timeshare is critical, not ever using the unit and complaining about it I'd not fair.
