This "breeder" is not licensed by the USDA. Alicia Luts is breaking the law! She also sells sick puppies to people. We bought our puppy from Gold Standard Kennel on November 13th, 2011. We found her through the internet. After having our puppy for 2 months, it was easy to see his difficulty walking and lameness. The X-ray confirmed that our puppy has hip dysplasia.

We contacted Alicia and the only option she offered us was to replace the puppy. We told her that there was absolutely no way we could do this, as Max (our puppy) had already become part of our family. We love him and wanted to help him.
We did the first surgery on his right hip on February 28th. Later, we have to do another surgery for his left side. For now, Max is going through a really painful recovery. It's a hard and upsetting time for our family right now.

We payed a lot of money for this surgery and its only the beginning of our expenses for Max. We explained everything to Alicia and we asked for any type of financial support. The least we figured she could do was return the money for the puppy, which in all honesty is nothing compared to Max's expenses.

Alicia didn't help us at all. The only thing this "breeder" is able to do is create a nice looking website and write sugar coated emails. I want everybody to know what happened to my family and I am sure I'm not the only one this has occurred to. DO NOT BUY FROM GOLD STANDARD KENNEL.

They clearly do not care for their dogs as they knowingly sell sick puppies with genetic diseases to families. Hopefully one day, someone will be able to stop them. I am trying my best to stop them as well. They need to take responsibility for their actions. Currently, they are selling their puppies from a mother named Sandee. At the same time, and even on the same page, they're selling Sandee herself. The reason why?

Because Sandee has bad hips, and at just 2 years old she has a hip score of 60%. This really tells me something about the type of dogs Alicia breeds and could well be the explanation for the sick puppies. A breeder who cares about the dogs they breed and loves their profession would never sell sick puppies to people and let the puppies, as well as their owners, suffer.

Alicia, you can say whatever you want and try and get yourself out of another sticky situation, but I know for myself the true "breeder" you are and hopefully the people who read this will know the real "breeder" you are as well. I have no reason to hide my identity, simply because I have nothing to hide from anyone and I'm willing to answer any questions anyone has about our situation.

First off, we do not have to be licensed with the USDA or otherwise, because we do not produce enough puppies in a year to have that required. However, the dog law has been to our home on 2 different occasions to look around and he reported that we go above the requirements for a kennel in the state of PA.

Second, I have never sold a "sick" puppy to you or anyone else. Each puppy is thoroughly examined by a licensed veterinarian before leaving our home. We've never sold (or had for that matter) a puppy that did not pass the examination.

Thirdly, we offered you a replacement puppy (as per our contract). When you stated that you were dissatisfied with that arrangement, we agreed to send you your money back. We sent you some initial money and agreed to send you the rest when our next litter arrived. To give you extra help, we researched, called around to different vets, trying to see what the best option was for Max. Tell me what "puppy mill" would do all of that? I can guarantee that a puppy mill isn't going to change their original contract to make you happy.

Fourthly, I would like to point out that "Max" was sired by our stud, Amadeus...other than that connection he is not a "Gold Standard Kennel" puppy. We had him listed on our website for sale because our stud was his father.

Fifth, I would also like to point out that the Father of your puppy, Max, has an OFA hip and elbow score of "GOOD" (you can obtain his OFA number on k9data.com under his registered name). The mother of your puppy (who is not even my dog) has a PennHip rating of 90th%, which is one of the best scores you can get. Unfortunately, hip dysplasia is a problem in Golden Retrievers. There is nothing you or I can do about that. The ancestors of both parents have had their hips x-rayed and are good. Also, the other puppies in the litter have had no problems with hips. Unfortunately, your little guy was the only one.

Sixth, Sandee's hips were fine for breeding. 60th% is above average for the Golden Retriever breed. However, Sandee had complications delivering her litter and had to have a c-section. We did not want her to go through that again, so we had her spayed and found her a wonderful pet home. Tell me what "puppy mill" would sell a 2 year old, multi-champion bloodline dog, with all health certifications for only $500, which didn't even cover our expenses for the c-section and spay? Our main concern is for our dogs, which is why Sandee was for sale, along with her puppies, at the same time.

I, also, have nothing to hide, and I invite anyone who has any doubts to come out to meet me and my dogs, or speak to the OTHER people who have gotten any puppies from me over the past 8 years. I have references for anyone who would like to see them. You could also attend our annual reunion picnic and meet the families who own our dogs. For more information, visit our website... www.goldstandardkennel.com

I have all documentation on the health certifications of each of the dogs mentioned, as proof, if necessary...as well as the copies of the emails between Marina and myself.

Marina, you need to realize that there are dogs that will get hip dysplasia, even after the most careful breeding. We have done everything in our power to help you, and even offered you extra help that you did not take advantage of. I AM truly sorry you are going through this, and I'm sorry you reacted by writing this report. I hope Max's surgery was successful and you see improvement from here on out. I have come across a great product for joints for dogs, if you want to contact me away from here, that may help Max. Best of luck with your little guy!
