After being "discovered" in Target on Mother's Day and spending the rest of the afternoon in an audition, I did think my daughter stood out in the crowd and expected a call back. We were told we were preliminarily scheduled for Wednesday at 2:30. I told my husband I thought it was a scam and wouldn't spend a dime, but could go see. Well, I got booked for a meeting at work, so when the "scout" called to confirm, my husband told her we'd pass. She offered a 5:30 and he took it. There was so much hype during the presentation! About how there were 200 people auditioning on Sunday and they only picked the top 30 and we were the best of the best because they only called the really good ones in on Wednesdays. Well, they let it slip that they frequently pick 30 of the top 200 and only about 5 make it. They also let it slip, during all the talk of all the fabulous things we would get for phenomenal prices that there was also a $3,000-$5,000 membership fee. I whispered to my husband that I would walk out right then if it wouldn't embarass my daughter. Luckily I got the chance as when they took two other families into the "interview" room to see if they'd be accepted to the next phase, we left. We had told our daughter up front that if they wanted a couple of hundred dollars for the classes, we were in, but if they mentioned thousands, we were out. So when we left, she understood, but her hopes were dashed. We got to the car and her words were true, "That was a complete waste of time."
20 years ago my niece went through something similar, Faces International, and they were repeatedly sued, but my niece did get work. However, she was the type of child that really had - and still has - charisma, so she would have made it without paying the thousands. My daughter is a sweet, loving girl, but no Hannah Montana. Follow the other advice on here and find an agent.
