Our experience with Great Plains Moving & Storage was horrible from the time we signed our contract.  The movers came late, worked slow, with many smoke breaks, (littering buts all around) and it took many hours longer than they indicated it would.  They didn't have enough room for all of our stuff, and had to come back the next day.  They required that we be there, which meant that we had to change our plans to leave town.  They were again several hours late on the second day and made us wait around.

Great Plains indiated that we would be able to track the delivery, but despite multiple requests for tracking information and updates, we were kept entirely in the dark.  We finally recieved confirmation for unloading, and made plans to accomodate.  At 6PM the night before, they finally admitted that the container had not arrived and that they didnt know when it would.  a couple days later, an Allied affiliate moving company near our new home called to say that they "found our container".

We had one lost box, and a couple that were smashed.  I assule that the level of damage is typical.  The thing that really frustrated us is that we were left in the dark and it felt like we were lied to as well.  Because of this, our plans to stay with family and friends were reworked many times, and our family spent time in third rate hotels waiting for information that never came.  The fact that this company never appologized for the inconvenience and terrible experience is fine, but what is entirely unnaceptable is that they asked us to submit recipts for the cost impact of the rescheduled unloading date, and when we did they offered us about 30% of our actual cost.

We doccumented and submitted $2,669.00 in direct actual cost for the impact, and we were offered $816.00.  This isn't acceptable.
