I spent one full year in the paralegal program at this college. I barely learned a thing! They expect you to read 10+ chapters a week, (sometimes that is one class!), and then you answer one question on the discussion board and do some cheesy assignment that usually consists of a couple of sentences in Word and sent as an attachment, then you get an A for that.

They gave us temporary access to Westlaw in ONE class, (a law search engine so to speak), and didn't even help us as a class on how to use it.

They don't even have any scheduled class time, which means no direct access to instructors. You try to call your instructor and they don't answer, even if it is during the time they say they will. You have to wait one to two days for an answer from them through email. Once they do answer you back, it is some off the wall comment that is of no help what so ever.

I wrote career services with a couple of questions and they finally got back with me two months later!

They also just raised their tuition! For doing what! In the time I was there, I supposedly owe over 17000.00! My experience with this college was horrible. That is just a few of the negative things that happened to me while going here.

Needless to say, I am transferring to a local college with real instructors.
Do not go to Herzing College Online! It is a major RIP-OFF!!

HERZING UNVIVERSITY

AUTHOR: Cpowe4031 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Honestly, I must say that i have attended this school since the summer of 2011 and i am approaching graduation in the spring of 2013. Since i have attended this school i have always be satisfied and very happy with my instructors. They always help me and i don't have any trouble. My major is Medical Billing and coding(associates degree). This past semester i had tutoring every day of the semester except Friday's. My tutor helped me with out any hesitation and even if i didn't schedule to be tutored she would always check on me to see if i wanted to meet with her. Because of my work schedule i sometimes didn't have enough time to do my work and meet with her(my work schedule is 1pm to 9:30pm). She would meet with me at 10pm til 2 in the morning and then again for my regularly scheduled appointment at 10am that morning. I passed the class with an A and i do know how to do basic diagnostic coding. My adviser calls once a month to check on me and she always tells me if i need anything to call her. I very comfortable at Herzing and confident that i made one of the best decisions in my life the day i enrolled with them. I'm sorry but we all are different and we all have different experiences in life it's what you make of them.

Update on My Herzing Experience So Far

AUTHOR: Rebecca - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 28, 2010

I am currently on a short Summer break, and I am here to tell you that I am excited to begin classes again next week at Herzing Online!  I have had the complete opposite experience from the original complaint post... in fact, my instructors were very helpful, knowlegeable, and both had high degrees in their field of study.  They were not "Random" people off the street.

I had to do a lot of work, but my husband, who was attending a local campus in our town, had the same amount of work to do as I did.  His professor had similar teaching methods to mine, wherin there was NO HAND-HOLDING.  You don't get lots of reminders as to when something is due; it is YOUR duty as a HIGHER EDUCATION student to read your syllabi and other announcements before attending classes.  It is YOUR duty to log in regularly and actively be involved in the discussions.  It is YOUR duty to look up information on how to cite sources (you can type in a search online and find a multitude of tips on this).

Another thing about expecting to have citing explained to you, is that often, in a college setting, your instructor will advise buying a book about it, or get it at the library.  Same on OR offline.

10 Chapters in a week and a 250 word essay assignment...

AUTHOR: Rebecca - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 26, 2010

Sounds pretty normal to me.  So, are you two disappointed that it was too much work?  I don't know about Kaiser, but after researching online schools and finding a lot of red flags, Herzing was finally a breath of fresh air.  So I may not make it to a graduation commencement - but I will get my degree.  So far, Herzing has been great; tuition is reasonable, books/software are included, and the staff are all very willing to bend over backward for you without being all pushy and sales-pitchy.  In fact, they are probably the only online college who DIDN'T contact me after I stupidly put my information out that I was looking into taking courses online.

I'm wondering in both your cases if you didn't understand completely how to use your classroom tools online.  I know that Herzing's Blackboard Suite offers tabs for just about everything you need to survive.  If you completed the Classroom Tutorial and the various orientations, you should have been well equipped to succeed.  I haven't started classes yet, so I suppose that I may find out the same thing you did, however... after all the emails, surveys, orientations, tutorials and phone calls I've received since I signed up a week and a half ago, I'm pretty sure that this whole thing is very legit, very challenging, and very good.  In fact, I'm nervous that it may be TOO challenging!

My hope is that somebody reading these rip-off reports about Herzing will also read the rebuttals and decide for themselves.  No offense, but so far all of the accusatory remarks have seemed to be from people who are either bitter and trying to get revenge, or just didn't understand what Online College truly entails.  You get out of it what YOU put into it!   I would hate for hopeful students to miss out on a great opportunity because they believed some bitter student's story that was not completely true. Also, if you truly think that this school is a scam, then I'm curious as to whether or not your Herzing credits tranferred to your campus-based college.  If they did, then that means that Herzing is legit!!  The proof is in the pudding!

Good luck to you no matter how you get your education - be proud that you're doing it! :)

Online schools are a waste of time and money

AUTHOR: Jane - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 09, 2009

Dear Deb:

I am sorry to hear of your experience with Herzing College online. I took one online class while attending Everest University (formerly Florida Metropolitan). Online classes are a waste of time and money. Most of our assignments consisted of posting a 250-word response to question(s) posed by the instructor, in regards to our assigned reading for that week. She assigned a research paper, but did not remind us as to when it was due. Nor did she give us instructions or help on how to write it. Every week we had to submit a different part of the paper for her review. Thesis statement, topic list, works cited, etc. I got a "D" on my Works Cited, but received no feedback or help on how to do it correctly. Then, all of a sudden, "the paper is due next week!" What??

Online classes are just taught by random people. Anyone can teach a college class online. I could probably do it, and I have no teaching experience. The instructors are glorified babysitters. The "lectures" consisted of a few PowerPoint slides that outlined the chapter. Big whoop.

I would advise you to run, not walk, from Keiser or any other private corporation (that's all these "universities" are!). Transfer as many credits as possible to a community college or state university. Keiser is regionally accredited, so you should be able to transfer your credits. Also, Keiser is a Florida school, and the state of education here is very sad indeed. We are at the bottom!

Good luck to you!
