Visited this dealer close to closing time and got a signed and legal offer to purchase on a SUV we were looking to purchase from them at a reasonable price and it stated that it was on hold for us. We had the hold, terms, trade in and vehicle offer all laid out and signed by both the sales person, manager and us, they had a copy and we got a copy. Since it was closing time, we had to come back the next day which was a minor inconvenience since we lived an hour away, but we agreed to it.
When we came back the next day, we asked for the same salesman, we were told he was off that day so another will take over but the original guy will get credit. We gave them our name and showed them the paper offer but held onto the paper. He went to the back out of sight for a few minutes, then came back saying they do not have that offer on hand and asked for my copy to show his manager. We handed it to him, he walked to the back. After a few minutes we heard what sounded like a paper shredder and 10 minutes later him walking out with a paper. He handed it back to us saying that previous offer was not valid and had a new one written up. We asked for our copy back and he said the manager has it and "filed it away". He disappeared again and when he came back saying that that offer since it was not valid had been shredded like all invalid offers due to it having some of our personal information.
The new "offer" was $6,000 higher on vehicle price, and half the trade in originally offered. We spent the next 4 hours until closing time having to deal with these scam artists until we walked away very angry and without the vehicle we had a proper and legal offer on, until they shredded any evidence.

If I had known they would try that I would have made a legal copy at home and contacted an attorney and the states attorney.
