I make all my purchases with cash. I misplaced the receipt, I took the products back to the store. I asked if they could provide a duplicate receipt. They asked me what it would be used for? I told them to return the product, then they said that they could not refund any money with a duplicate receipt. I called their customer service, they confirmed this. The customer rep would not give his last name and would not refer me to a manager. I attempted to take care of this prior to the 90 day return. I found the original receipt after the 90 days, took the item back and this is what happened.
I was told the receipt expired, only a store credit would be provided. I declined.
I asked for the manager and this is where Matt Balton comes in. He states how sorry he was that this was store policy and he would not give me my money back, I told him that I attempted to take care of this prior to the 90 day expiration. He referred me to the 800 number, they confirmed. He was rude and made no expections to the fact of my efforts, nor did the customer care line.
I then agreed to take a store credit, the clerk started the process, and instead of giving me the total amount of $279.00 she said that they could only give me 229.00, because the product was on sale now. I was at the boiling point by this time and yelled that I would not accept a sale price when the original receipt showed that I paid full price for the item. It didn't matter, even with the original receipt that showed that I paid the full amount for the product. I was very loud and wanted everybody around to hear what was happening. She called Matt up again. I told him that I would not take a $50.00 loss on the product and he then stated that's to bad this is all that they would give me. I told him that I would stand in front of the store all day until this is resolved. He then told me that I should be ashamed of how I was acting, and that he would keep my products, not give me any store credit at all, and have me escorted from the store. I took the huge box out and 30 bricks back out to my car myself and another customer helped me put this into my car. The same as the day when I purchased the product. Nobody helped me that day either. There should be a law regarding this type of consumer abuse. I want Home depot to return my money (ALL OF IT), I want Matt Balton fired, and I want an apology. I will never purchase another item not even a screw from Home Depot.

IF its true to what the first one was saying thats why Home Depot doesn't care about service. They are going downhill and fast from what some people have told me. They used to be customer friendly but thats no more. I rarely shop and this is why the corporate stores are going downhill.
If the manager yelled back at me the way your explaining I would have called the ceo people and told them.

You, I need a duplicate receipt because I lost mine. HD, why do you need a duplicate receipt. You, because I need to return some items. HD, you can't return items with a duplicate receipt. Me, what's the sense of duplicate receipts? What a vicious circle.

You should also consider that the signs on the front of every store (whether you choose to read them or not) clearly state you should retain your receipt for refund.
Sorry if you fail to read the signs, but tell that to police if you missed the speed limit sign when ticketed for speeding.
*note: I am not a home depot employee, but I don't think stores should take a loss (thus making prices higher for me and others) because you refused to read the clearly stated requirements of your purchase. As a consumer you should be aware of the store policies where you shop, and I have no sympathy for your failure to pay attention in advance of your purchase.

Home Depot Return Policy

Home Depot return policy states, that if you have your receipt withing 90 days of purchase you will get your refund the way it was purchased. If you have your receipt and it is over 90 days you will receive store credit for your return.
Without your receipt, you will automatically get store credit unless you have a Home Depot Commerical Credit Card. Without a receipt, you will the lowest price of the item returned within the last 6 months.
Your mistake was losing the receipt and paying cash. By paying cash we can not offer receipt lookup. If you had paid by credit card, check, or debit(which is refunded as cash) we could have looked up your receipt and gave you back what you paid for the items. I know you had no intentions of ever having to return the items but I try to remind all of my customers to hold on to their receipts until the projects is done. I also instruct them to make copies of their recipt because we, Home Depot, still uses that awful thermal receipt paper, it will fade after time or if left out in the sun.
I am sorry for the way you were treated and you should have had some of the above options explained to you. Unfortunately, we hae had a lot of changes in out systems and Atlanta, home office, controls alot of it. Managers can no longer do any of the over rides they did when I first started 2 years ago.
I hope this helps anyone interested in The Home Depot return policy.
