Fraud Alert...BEWARE

I recently leased a 2016 Honda Civic from Honda of Kenosha. I turned in my leased 2013 Civic. The 2013 had excess miles on it and part of the new deal was that they would cover the cost of the excess mileage and send me a check for $1500 to pay the bill when I received it from Honda Financial.

When we came in the first thing we were asked is do we have a trade in. I explained about the 2013 civic and that the lease was up and we wanted to lease a new model. The salesman took the keys to "have it inspected". Once we decided on a car we were told about the excess mileage and what they were willing to do about. The sales manager came to the table and said they would issue us a check for $1500, which is about $200 over the excess mileage charge just to make sure everything was covered. I asked him at that time if we would be getting a bill for anything more than the excess mileage and he assured me we wouldn't. I said I know the car needs new tires and he assured there would be no additional charge. Since they had the keys for over an hour at this point I assumed they had thoroughly inspected the car.

After signing all the papers with the leasing manager I asked about the check for $1500. She looks thru the paperwork and said you mean $1300? I said we were told id was going to be $1500 by the sales manager so she called him into the office. After first denying it he finally admitted he misspoke and could only "legally" pay for the actual excess mileage and there was nothing he could do. Being frustrated and aggravated about being lied to, especially after signing all the sales papers we agreed to the $1300. I then asked again, Are you sure we are not going to get a bill for anything more than the excess mileage and he again assured me we wouldn't. He stated this in front of the lady who handled all the leasing documents.

Well, not to my surprise, I received the bill yesterday from Honda Financial for not $1300 but $1933. Supposedly the front bumper was damaged and had to be replaced for $661. I found this out when I contacted Honda financial about the additional charges. For the record, we arrived at the dealership with no body damage to the car and never saw it again after the salesman took our keys. And after inspecting it for over 2 hours they apparently saw no damage either or I'm, sure they would have brought it to our attention. So where did the damage come from...a careless porter or maybe another employee who took the car out to get lunch. I have no idea but I do know that it was NOT damaged when we turned it over to them.

I sent them a letter explaining all of this to them but never got a response. Surprise!

I wish I had done my homework and checked out all the reviews here and it seems everywhere on the internet. Obviously, they have a long history of ripping people off in many different ways.

After filing this report I was contacted by the General Manager of Honda of Kenosha.  He was apologetic for the problems I had had at his dealership and said he had never seen any of the emails I had sent.  He said that if he had he would have taken care of it immediately.  He sent me a check that day to cover the excess fees I was charged.  I am satisfied with the outcome.
