ISRAEL DOVIE NOT AN ATTORNEY CEDARHURST New York

Israel Dovie represents himself as being employed in the law offices of Joel Reback & Alen Gerson, both of whom are licensed attorneys in the state of New York.  He takes checks made payable to himself and then runs to the bank to cash it, rather than deposit it.

He says that he will do legal work for you but in the state of New York, practicing law without a license is a crime. 

In this instance, he took $5,000.00 from a Rabbi whom he promised to do legal work for and then disappeared for months.  When the rabbi tried to reach him by telephone, he returned no calls, did not answer the phone and, avoided the rabbi on every occasion.

I own a collection agency, retained by the rabbi to collect the money from Dovie.  He absolutely refused to pay but after a period of time, he made a feeble attempt to return the rabbis money by making deposits into the rabbis account for 500.00 on each occasion but after four payments he stopped, leaving a balance due for 3,000.00.  I spoke with both Reback and Gerson, both of whom told me that Dovie used to work for them but, Reback now lives in Israel and employs no one, and Gersons practice is elsewhere.  Gerson reports that from time to time he sends Dovie some work as a PARALEGAL but, that is all.  He works for Gerson on a per diem basis.

When I got involved, he told me to go kill myself, threatened that if I called - he would not pay the rabbi and then threatened to tell the rabbi that he was not getting paid because of me.  The rabbi is both a client and close friend of mine so he knew I was doing the job.  Dovie has repeatedly told me to go kill myself, etc.

Eventually we sued Dovie who, hired an attorney to represent him.  Can you imagine giving a man who represents himself as an orthodox jew money and then having to stand on your head to get it back when this guy does nothing?  The guy pays his attorney to go to court in an absolutely non defensible matter to defend him.  The attorney has told me directly that his client is an a*s and that he cannot win but, he's happy taking Dovie's money in the meantime.

Israel Dovie is not an attorney - he may know something about the law but, he is not licensed to practice law.  This is a very bad man and someone anyone and everyone, should use supreme caution when considering the use of his services.
