Cambece called my next door neighbor on 4/15/05. They told my neighbor I needed to call my attorney immediately and gave her their toll free number. I have sent them 2 separate letters to dispute an account they claim I owe to Conseco or Dicks. I have yet to receive any proof from them. Also, each letter I sent had my home address on it.
They knew exactly where I live. However, they resort to calling my neighbor's house and bothering her, causing me undue stress and embarrassment for me and my family. this is only the condensed version. The phone conversations I had with several people in their office is a whole story in itself. One for which there is not enough space in this box to include. I say ENOUGH!!!!
I have already complained to the FTC as well as the MA. Attorney General. I simply do not feel like waiting to hear back from them. I am taking matters into my own hands. If you have been lied to, harassed, threatened, ridiculed, etc. please file a Rip-off Report. I say we burn 'em and take them for everything they've got.

Spending countless hours researching Cambece and CACV of Colorado, I have just found many lawsuits in the making from CACV Colorado, LLC in the state of KY.
Now, needless to say, I assume that Cambece is a third party collector, collecting for CACV. Cambece isn't filing the lawsuits, it is CACV. On the phone with Cambece, the man threatened that his client, the owner of the account may 'sue' me or take me to court over my unpaid balance.
I went to www.askjeeves.com and put in CACV of Colorado, LLC, then searched.
Most of what I found were county newspapers reporting of suits filed in KY.
Most were no less than about $7000.00.
It sickened my stomach so I stopped looking.
I found the answer I had been searching for all along.
I posted a Cambece complaint as well. I wish I knew how to stop this or how to not get taken to court...or I would help you, but it seems some of the action you are taking may be in vain.
Please let me know but updating your postings or posting to my post...(Sarah in Cincinnati, OH), under Cambece or CACV of Colorado.
Now, if the debt isn't valid or they broke the laws, you could be alright. I don't know the entire facts of your case.
I wish you the best of luck, as well as myself...seems this has scared the crap out of me.

I posted the comments on 4/15. Since then, I have contacted the FTC, Mass. Attny General, and many different attorneys, most of whom knew of the illegal activities of Cambece. I also contacte a local television news reporter who specializes in consumer issues. He is very respected in this area and gets results. It was a delight knowing that he will expose these creeps for who they really are. I am sure, though, that when he contacts Cambece, they will deny everything and tell him that this supposed bill is still outstanding and that I refused to pay it. The truth is, like I told the reporter, even if I did owe them anything, even $100,000, they had NO RIGHT to contact my neighbor and tell her my business. This whole situation has been very degrading for me, not to mention the embarrassment it has caused with my neighbor. I would love to sue this law firm for a couple hundred thousand, but even if that doesn't work out, I will be happy to know that this is going to get media attention and hopefully help someone else who doesn't know all the rules.
