I don't like the dealership adding this Vin Etching when I didn't want it, and secondly it is not etching. Add "traceable stickers" to my sale sheet and fine, but its not etching. If I am going to pay for etching I want real etching. Etching definition. "the act or process of making designs or pictures on a metal plate, glass, etc., by the corrosive action of an acid instead of by a burin" What they do at Jidd motors is put stickers on your car basically. Etching is a permanent removal of material. Not only do they just put these stickers around to look like it is going to give you some protection. They put it in awkward uncommon places, which proves to me it's just a gimmick. Look at this sticker placement across 3 folds of metal. Most likely the "sticker" numbers won't even stay on by putting it on this way. I peeled a sticker off, some of the stencil numbers stay on there, that's all it is. Supposedly the number will stay there traceable by blue light I am told, but I find that highly unlikely from the sticker that I removed. With a bad logo at that where I could make better stickers on my home printer. The stickers say traceable by Police. Hmmm really, how? I am trying to look up this info, but try to find any info on the web about this, there isn't anything. Read below.
Just looking at the sticker and trying to find info on this place is nonexistent. AutoGuard registered trademark logo on the sticker you figured this process and company would be all over the web being put on so many vehicles and what not. Well not really. So I google AutoGuard. I click on AutoGuard Inc. with the registered trademark logo. The website pops up with a paint and polisher website. That says nothing about vehicle security, Vin Etching, etc... So why are these cheaply made stickers using a registered name that is on another website that has nothing to do with theft security? Next option, AAGI pops up On google search it says Marketing Agency. 888-442-2886. This is the place. So I am supposed to feel secure about my vehicle safety from a marketing agency. So search on the site about vehicle etching and their "security process" There isn't much there at all besides a brochure that shows the sticker and doesn't say much. Clearly there it says traceable decals. DECALS. This is not etching, and I was charged for etching. Plus every article I have read on Vin etching has it done on the windows to protect your glass.
Why are these stickers not on my windows? Cause I am pretty darn sure this sticker technology will not work on glass and be easily removed and wiped away. So if that's the case what do you think it will protect being on the inside door panels. Nothing. But of course no literature on the website that can substantiate this. Search yourselfAagi.com.
From Wiki
VIN etching uses a variety of methods, commonly a stencil and an acidic etching paste, to engrave a vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) onto the windshield and windows. Most parts on a vehicle already have at least a partial VIN stamped onto them, and many auto parts buyers will not purchase parts that carry identification numbers. Should a thief try to sell the parts from a vehicle for profit, those marked parts carry a higher risk for both the thief and the auto parts seller. Since automotive glass generally have no identification numbers, and are often interchangeable between many different years and models of vehicle, there is usually a much greater profit for the thief compared to other components on the vehicle. If a car's windows are stamped with the VIN, thieves would need to discard the glass before parting out the stolen vehicle, thus reducing or eliminating their profit.[1] VIN etching can also increase the odds of recovery of a stolen car by police
So basically they can still steal and sell all the glass from my car, as there are no stickers on any windows, which is the main point of Vin Etching. Also the stickers don't even have your VIN# on them anyways which is the main point. They have some code number linked to this site that has little info. So imagine if someone wanted to link your VIN# they would have to go through a whole other process of contacting these people to find out what vehicle these are from.
Then the price 369.00! Really? Oh and a manager says the price is usually double and they pass the savings down to customers, lucky me, who didn't even ask for it. So normally some stickers are going to cost over 700+??? Even for etching, which permanently burns away material, you can use a 20.00 machine for. But now for fancy stickers 369.00? What a rip off, and they include that without asking you if you want it. Buyers beware with these shady tactics from this place.
So all in all
369.00 = No Vin Etching, No Glass protection, what Vin Etching is for and I was charged for.
