November of 2010 I received a letter from the IRS stating they were going to levy my bank, income and personal property for unpaid back taxes. My husband and I were scared and had already dealt with our state regarding unpaid taxes so we knew the feds were going to be much worse. I called the number for JK Harris and went to an appointment. The "representative" told me I had better do something quick or the IRS was going to take everything. He then told me how much the fees were and I told him I did not have that kind of money and he said no problem, you can make payments.

He said first we need to get your back taxes filed so hurry up and complete these forms and mail them to our corporate office so we can get you current with the IRS. I paid him $400 and he said to hurry back in two weeks with $400 more so we can do a "stay of collection" so the IRS cant levy your bank account. My husband and I prepared our 5 years of unfiled taxes in 3 days and mailed to corporate office and we borrowed money from family for the $400 needed for the stay of collection. The guy told me there was a problem with my check I gave him and he needed my debit card to get the additional $400.

I gave him the info and he took $800 and then the check he said was a problem went thru my bank for an additional $400 for a total of $1200! My account was in overdraft and he said " I told you the stay of collection costs $800" and was unapologetic. Two weeks go by and I call to see where our taxes are and the guy at corp tells me "Oh, we arent releasing your prepared taxes until you pay us our full contract fee of $2400" I asked how that was going to work since my last payment of $400 wouldnt be paid until May of 2011 and then my 2010 taxes would be late too (For an addl $25 a month I had contracted them to do my 2010 taxes) He said " I dont know, thats how it works"

So, I canceled my contract with them and said I wanted my money back and they said all they can refund is $76, for doing absolutely nothing!! BEWARE of JK Harris!!! Just call the IRS yourself its much easier and much less expensive!

A Way to Help

AUTHOR: Chris H - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, February 10, 2011

I just got through my tax nightmare!!! I had a consultation with JK Harris and our next step was handing over a huge amount of money with some hefty promises. This made me very uneasy. Thank goodness too.

I avoided this company by doing research on them before having them represent me. The problem is, they take your money before actually know what your situation is with the IRS. I chose the Tax

Relief Foundation to help me because they conduct a full investigation with the IRS and state first.
This is the only honest way to conduct business in this arena. Both you and your representation should have realistic expectations before fully committing. I would recommend the Tax Relief Foundation to my parents. That says alot.
