russ iv got a kdc-mp4028 kenwood car radio''and the car battery went dead and the radio lost the code' and i emailed kenwood and got nothing back''''' BUT IF I SEND THEM 20.00 they will send me a unlock code'''' i think that is a ripoff'' as big as kenwood company is looks like that they would not charge nothing ill never bye kenwood again and also tell all my friends not too bye kenwood..... iv had lots of radios and never had this prob. thanks kenwood'''' russell....

The Kenwood decks do not require a code...

..they come default with no code. The only way the deck requires a code, is if the ORIGINAL owner/operator of the deck went into the menu for security...and personally programed in a code.

Now..why even have the option to program in a code? Possibly as a theft deterrent you think??

I find it hard to believe Kenwood would "sell" you an unlock code at all...but it is common knowledge..that alpha numeric (K-C-A-R) will unlock 99% of Kenwood decks.

However some decks require this to be done via a remote control..which if you do not have one it is 30-50 bucks retail..or look on eBay..you might find one for 10 bucks.
