I was mistreated by the owners as an intern. I interned here for 3 weeks. It was supposed to be 3 months. After 3 weeks I chose to leave, along with the other 2 interns I had just met. The fee of $500 each that we paid to stay for 3 months was non-refundable. The way we were treated was unacceptable and we decided the money was not worth the abuse and left. When I first arrived, I was warned by some of the towns people that I met in Hawi to be careful (when they found out where I was staying), much to my dismay. I had looked forward to this experience for over 2 years from when I first read about it. I didn't want to believe them. However, very quickly, I discovered what they were talking about and found that the owners use psychological manipulation and gaslighting techniques on their interns and try to take advantage of their vulnerability in what is supposed to be a safe place to heal. I have a masters degree in Science and have studied personality disorders in depth and from what I witnessed and experienced, Lew and Karin, display classic behaviors of narcissistic personality disorder. It is unfortunate because the qi gong master was amazing and totally legit with his healing work and the property is breathtaking. If you're thinking of interning...just be careful. I didn't find it a safe space to be. I'm not the first person this has happened to. This place is not what it seems and no one see what happens behind closed doors. The owners are master manipulators and I hope that this review prevents other unsuspecting interns/people/guests from experiencing what I did and also from contributing to people who would do such a thing.
