I brought my 5 yr old Horse to her  the winter of 08 through Feb 09 for training. She had him for 4 months total and when I came to pick  him up in Feb you she would not even get on him. She said there was too much commotion because some one was dropping off a horse. She sent him home and told me to ride him. I thought that was odd and headed home. If She was not capable of working with this horse she should have sent him home in the 1st 30 days. I don't think expecting her to be able to ride a horse after 4 months is an unrealistic expectation.

I ventured to get on the horse in the round pen. You could tell he had been backed but had no idea what go meant and would get scared and scoot off. I think  sending him home and expecting me to get on and go when she wouldn't was unrealistic, not safe and unprofessional. I wouldn't have expected him to be finished but much further along then just being backed and her having the confidence to ride him before I left your facility.
I ended up sending him elsewhere for more training and with a confident rider this horse is amazing.

When I speak to others about my experience after 4 months of training and that she wouldn't get on the horse for me they are shocked and  I was taken advantage of.
I was just at a training facility and watched them back a horse after an hour or so of round pen work.
I asked her to make it right with me and this was her responce.

trainer never responded

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 13, 2010

I find it odd that the trainer Liz Graves has never responded to my inquiry as to her position to the issues and now someone else is responding for her.  That isn't how a proffessional person should act in my opinion. Also they never responded when I put  my updated statements and all of there accusations that were not true on the forum,  nor have I heard from the district attorney. I stand by my statements.

the real truth come out at horseforum.com

AUTHOR: trottenalong - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, November 13, 2010

This subject showed up on horseforum.com and the entire thread can be found there with a link to that  at the bottom of this rebuttal.

The 2 posts pasted here are the last 2 of that thread and many of us in the end felt deceived and lead on by the owner of the horse and the trainer here was being pretty much railroaded for some  unknown purpose but it looks suspicious. We felt that this could not be left unaddressed here on this complaints board and would warn any future trainer that this horse owner may contract to work with her horses. Seems she can come back and haunt them even years later and maybe she even believes her own untruths here. Folks like this owner give us a bad name that is unappreciated.

Posted by woman who knew and was there to see said horse in training:

My name is Jane and a friend of mind shared this thread with me since she knows I have been using Liz Graves as a trainer for a number of years now. Wow!! I just had to respond to this thread because I remember this horse very well, though I never actually met his owner even though my horse was there the whole time her horse was. I do not believe that what has been posted here is the truth in this matter. Since my horse was in training both times Michael was in training with Liz, I felt compelled to tell what I know of the time he was there. Many of us knew this horse and his situation; he was a very troubled horse who came with a lot of baggage.

The first time I saw this horse was the winter of 2007. He came in for 30 days to help him be, well, more like a horse! When Michael arrived he was afraid of everything: afraid to walk on a wet spot, sounds, visuals, a sunbeam on the ground, white snow verses dirty snow and back again, he was afraid of himself and other horses. He was also very head shy; and everyone wondered what had happened to this horse to make him so fearful of everything. Liz often has people at her ranch apprenticing with her, so I was not the only one who saw Michael there at that time.

I was there when a couple of phone calls with Michaels owner were going on and Liz was trying to find out what had happened to this horse to create his fears, she had no help from the owner in getting any information much to her frustration. Of course this isnt uncommon, in the years Ive had my horse at her place Ive seen it happen before.

Michael was a pretty horse but was not mature enough physically to be ridden, he was long, narrow, fine boned and no muscle development. Liz did 30 days of ground work to teach basics and help him overcome his fears. I remember one afternoon she put every saddle pad and blanket on the ground in her arena and helped him to walk on them. That was a red letter day for Liz and she told me it felt so good to see him progress to that. I had been interested in Michael as he was so different from any horse Id ever worked with, he had NO curiosity! It seemed like his curiosity had been replaced with fear, so I always asked how Michael was doing when I came to visit my horse. After 30 days he was sent home to wait to start his riding work later, giving him time to mature. In my opinion he left a much more whole horse than when he came.

Now everyone that takes a horse to Liz for training has to sign a contract and present a Coggins and fill out a general health certificate and information form. One of the things on Lizs form says when you bring a horse in you are making a commitment to come and work with her and your horse. This is also stated on her web site (although in the years that Ive worked with her owners not showing up is commonplace. And, of course, everyone has their good excuses!)

I work a job and own a ranch where we have several head of horses, all needing daily attention. I have a family and yet I was there almost every weekend, to work with my horse (even though he was not being ridden yet). As I mentioned, I never heard that Michaels owner ever came to do this or even to visit him. Some days when I drove down all I did was go into my horses stall and brush him and tell him I missed him as it was really too cold to work. And I know if Liz missed a day working with him, she always added it on to the time he was there, so I ended up getting several free days after my 60 days were up as there had been days too cold to work him. Now, I live 2 hours from Liz, I checked and Michaels owner lives not 4 hours, but 2 and hours (not pulling a trailer) from Liz and Im driving from the north, where as she would drive from the south.

I have had my horse in training with Liz off and on for over 3 years, and I know that fees are paid one month at a time, and never whole amounts up front. Michaels fee was the same that as I was paying which was $600.00 a month.

Michael came back the next winter for 2 months. I know this as my horse was there again for continued training. This was 2007-2008 not 2009. My horse was there until the end of March. This also does not equal 4 months but 3 months in 2 separate training visits. Again Michaels owner never once came to see her horse nor work with him and Liz. The fees were the same that year too, so how can she say she paid 2600.00 dollars when she paid 1800.00 in training fees?

Im sure Liz has receipts and records, plus phone calls and e-mail correspondence to confirm this, shes a very organized lady!

I know Liz was in touch with Michaels owner often (I was present for some of these calls) and I would ask about him when I came, concerned for him and where he was at, as he was still a very fearful horse but he did get his saddling, riding and training done plus more of his fear issues worked. He was still a troubled horse and I remember Liz telling the owner on the phone that there was no room for errors with Michael and would still take several years for him to overcome all his fears with the right continued work. Liz also had a trainer with a mounted police department there then doing a trainers internship and she rode and worked with Michael as well.

I was there the day Michaels owner picked him up as I had been asked to come at noon for my appointment instead of my usual morning time because Liz had blocked the entire morning off for Michaels owner to come and work with him and Liz. She wanted to show her how he was used to being worked (I think I mentioned she hadnt been there once in the two months hed been there to work with him). Michaels owner showed up late, on my time, and was there when I got there. Why didnt Liz ride the horse? Shed been waiting ALL morning to show the owner how the horse rode, but now the time was up. I have schedules, Liz has schedules. Wonder why? So people can PLAN things. Liz wasnt able to give the time to Michaels owner, shed waited all morning to do that! I wonder if Liz knew this was going to happen as this has been the case with other owners. Even though they make the commitment to work with the horse they dont show up. Maybe the dont really want Liz to see how they are going to interact with their horse. I dont know, it only makes sense to me to work with your trainer and learn the language they are teaching your horse!

I later asked Liz about Michael and learned of 2 things the owner did to Michael the first week he went home that probably undid most of what Liz and the other trainer had worked so hard on. I was there when the e-mail came in. It really upset Liz and the other trainer, after what Liz had told her about being very careful with Michael when he got home, and then here comes the owner asking for help over what she had done. (and I'd bet Liz still has the email on this as well as raves of how good Michael was when he got home)

I also know Liz has only done 1 clinic in Texas and that was 2009 because it was an event that was her first clinic in the same state her Mother lives in.

I have worked with Liz for over 4 years now, and her integrity as a horse trainer AND a person never fails to amaze me. I have seen her work many, many horses and she ALWAYS has the horses best interest at heart. Perhaps this is why she is seen as a threat to some?

I do have to say, nothing adds up here, I was there at that time, and the situation described is very different from the situation I observed. Perhaps rather than continue to bash Liz, you should ask her yourself. Her email is on her web site www.lizgraves.org .

out what had happened to this horse to create his fears, she had no help from

the owner in getting any information much to her frustration. I gave

her all the information. The horse had minimal handling other than brushing,

leading, trailer loading, farrier work. He had just been out with his mom and

no other horses there was nothing else to tell

Michael was a pretty

horse but was not mature enough physically to be ridden, he was long, narrow,

fine boned and no muscle development. He is a tennessee walker and

that is what they look like. He was 4 and they are usually started at 2 but I

didn't want to rush him and let him grow.
 I remember one afternoon

she put every saddle pad and blanket on the ground in her arena and helped

him to walk on them. That was a red letter day for Liz and she told me it

In my opinion he left a much more whole horse than when he came.He came

home at my request not Liz'. She never said a thing until I suggested

bringing him back the next yr.

one of the things on Lizs

form says when you bring a horse in you are making a commitment to come and

work with her and your horse. I have the contract and it says nothing

about coming while the horse is there.

I have a family and yet I

was there almost every weekend, to work with my horse (even though he was not

being ridden yet). As I mentioned, I never heard that Michaels owner ever

came to do this or even to visit him. On his second time there I

asked about coming up to see his progress I was told he was not ready for me

and the next time she was out of the country.
And I know if Liz missed a

day working with him, she always added it on to the time he was there, so I

ended up getting several free days after my 60 days were up as there had

been days too cold to work him. I was not given any make up days

except when she was out of the country. When I came to pick him up she

laughed at how when it was so cold the bit had frozen in the corners of his

mouth so she couldn't work him but nothing mentioned about make up or credit.

I did not think it was funny.
Now, I live 2 hours from Liz, I

checked and Michaels owner lives not 4 hours, but 2 and hours (not pulling

a trailer) from Liz and Im driving from the north, where as she would drive

from the south. You are correct on the distance. Just because you can

make the trip does not mean I could and if I was needed there I would have

been there.

I have had my horse in

training with Liz off and on for over 3 years, and I know that fees are paid

one month at a time, and never whole amounts up front. Michaels fee was the

same that as I was paying which was $600.00 a month. Yes it was

600.00 I was thinking it was 650.00 I am curious to why you would have your

horse there for so long? Does she take that long with every one?

Michael came back the

next winter for 2 months. I know this as my horse was there again for

continued training. This was 2007-2008 not 2009. My horse was there until the

end of March. By my recolection my dates are correct unless I forgot

a yr.
so how can she say she paid 2600.00 dollars when she paid 1800.00 in

training fees? 2400.00 by my account

Im sure Liz has receipts

and records, plus phone calls and e-mail correspondence to confirm this,

shes a very organized lady!

I know Liz was in touch

with Michaels owner often (I was present for some of these calls) Where

was I because the only call was about his history and when he walked on a

blanket other than when she returned my calls about coming to get him.

I remember Liz telling

the owner on the phone that there was no room for errors with Michael and

would still take several years for him to overcome all his fears with the

right continued work. This is totally incorrect, if that were the

case she should have put it in an email and writing to have a record. I am

not sure where you are getting this info. Seems strange she called me so many

times and you were always there???
Liz also had a trainer with a mounted

police department there then doing a trainers internship and she

rode and worked with Michael as well
. If she had been riding

him where are the updates, emails and pictures of this and why would she not

ride him when I came to get him?

I was there the day

Michaels owner picked him up as I had been asked to come at noon for my

appointment instead of my usual morning time because Liz had blocked the

entire morning off for Michaels owner to come and work with him and

Liz. I had a 3 hour drive in cold icy conditions I would no way be

there early.
She wanted to show her how he was used to being worked (I

think I mentioned she hadnt been there once in the two

months hed been there to work with him). Michaels owner showed up

late, on my time, and was there when I got there. Why didnt Liz

ride the horse? Shed been waiting ALL morning to show the owner how the

horse rode, but now the time was up. I have schedules, Liz has schedules.

Wonder why? So people can PLAN things. Liz wasnt able to give the time to

Michaels owner, shed waited all morning to do that! I wonder if Liz knew

this was going to happen as this has been the case with other owners. This

again is totally false. I was not given a time to be there. I could come

either Sat or Sunday and Liz said either day was fine and time was not

mentioned. It was icey and cold so I wasited for the roads to clear up and

got there around 11 which is not unreasonable with a 3 hr drive, you had a

shorter drive you could have gotten there earlier.

I later asked Liz about

Michael and learned of 2 things the owner did to Michael the first week he

went home that probably undid most of what Liz and the other trainer had

worked so hard on. Would you like to share this since it was bitter

cold and he just got put out until spring. Sounds like you are making things

up.
I was there when the e-mail came in. It really upset Liz and the

other trainer, after what Liz had told her about being very careful with

Michael when he got home, and then here comes the owner asking for help over

what she had done. Seems like these are things that should be in

writing in an email so there is a record of how careful I should be. You need

to be specific because nothing happened and I did not ask Liz for help on

anything
.(and I'd bet Liz still has the email on this as well as raves of

how good Michael was when he got home)There was no such email and you have

made up several things.

I do have to say, nothing adds up here, I was there at that

time, and the situation described is very different from the

situation I observed. Perhaps rather than continue to bash Liz, you should

ask her yourself. Her email is on her web site
www.lizgraves.org .

sure would like to see these emails to back up your statements since you know more about my horse than I do
