Liz Smith Lisa E.SmithAnn Nelson Overpaid on Mary Kay purchase and wanted balance reimbursed before check cleared the bank Los Angeles California

I received a text on my phone requesting Mary Kay products from a Liz Smith, representing City Social Club.  (I am listed on the Mary Kay website.)

After the order was finalized and the price quoted, I received an email indicating that in addition to the Mary Kay purchase, her company inadvertently added her flight reimbursement to the check. "I want you to go ahead and cash the check when you receive it and I was wondering if you would be so kind as to send the remaining funds to my assistant via WESTERN UNION or MONEYGRAM Money Tranfer after you take out the payment for the order. Tranfer after you take out the payment for the order, I'll let you know the name and address which you'll remit the rest of the funds to..."..." Please send the remaining money to:

I alerted her when I received the check but told her I wouldn't be able to reimburse until the check cleared.  2 days after I deposited the check, I received a letter from Wells Fargo bank, inessence saying they were delaying the availability of the funds as "we believe the check(s) may not be paid."  The reason was listed as Confirmed Fraud.

The check was returned and I was charged a $12.00 return fee.

I haven't heard from Liz Smith since.
