Lord and Taylor Unauthorized Hold on Checking Account Funds via Debit Card New York New York

I recently placed two orders with Lord and Taylor totaling $321.89. 2 days later, I noticed a hold placed on funds in my account by Lord and Taylor for $462.54. I placed numerous calls to customer service asking for a supervisor three times but was refused. The fourth time I called, they told me a supervisor would call me by 3 pm. No one called. 

I called back one more time and demanded to speak to a supervisor. She told me it was "company policy" to place an authorization hold on a customer's checking account for more than the customer authorized. I replied that it may be customer policy, but it was also illegal. The supervisor did not understand why unauthorized use of my funds by the company is illegal.

She told me the charges would "fall off" my account in 5 days. I'm a disabled man living on Social Security. If I had written out a check for my rent, it would have bounced. As a result, I cannot pay my rent on time and may be kicked out of my apartment. 

I intend to immediately file a criminal complaint against Lord and Taylor and a civl lawsuit as a result of these unauthorized charges.
