Malibu Beach RV Resort Discrimination Against Disabled Malibu California

HORRIBLE CRUEL management! Go somewhere else!!! I just came back from the worst rv trip I have ever had. I brought my wife for a final camping trip of her life. She has Lyme's Disease and it is killing her. She had a good couple of weeks so I wanted to take her camping for our anniversary. We used to go every month to Malibu or Newport just to get away. Since her illness took such a bad toll on her we had to stop camping. We hadn't gone for over three and a half years. I wanted to give her a last memory of camping together. Malibu Beach RV Camp management was horrifying. I am so outraged I am looking for an attorney to sue for discrimination.

It started fine. We hung out a few days, enjoyed the beach. We decided to stay an extra night and the next day my wife was going to tow the trailer out of the park so I could work. Her illness is extremely expensive so I have to work as much as I can. I am a psychotherapist. I treat severely traumatized women and youth. While I was working I received two phone calls while I was running a trauma group for women who are chronic victims of extreme sexual abuse and repeated rapes. One call was at 11:36am and the next at 11:58am. One female manager called and said my wife had become disoriented, confused, had fallen, hurt herself, was wandering around saying that her dogs had both died & had wandered into the office, took water and didn't pay for it. Then she said, "we can't have this kind of thing going on here and we need you to call us back." I found it an odd statement. At first she sounded concerned for her medically and then her tone changed to a blaming one. I didn't think too much of it but I thought it was rude.

Then the second phone call from the male manager Jeff or Joe. He was hostile & threatening. He said I needed to call him back within the next couple of minutes or else they were towing my rv out of the park? I was totally confused! I had never spoken to anyone; there was no cause for the blatant aggression at all. I called. The female manager explained my wife was acting very strange, confused, disoriented, had fallen and was crawling around in the dirt saying our dogs were dead. Hello - call the paramedics! That's what I told her to do. Why call me? She was OBVIOUSLY having a medical crisis. I explained her illness and that she likely got dehydrated, which has happened before. She needed to go to the hospital. 

So... What do they do? The call the police and try to have her arrested!!! She said there were several police cars that came and the police helicopter! They handcuffed her and then questioned her. The police realized she was sick, disabled, and called for paramedics. They were going to take her to the hospital but she refused because she was scared of the cost of the ambulance. See, each time an ambulance comes for her, we end up with a $1,000 bill for the ride. Malibu charges a lot more for the city services so.... She knew we couldn't afford it. We really couldn't afford the camping trip but you do things like this for people you love who are dying. You try to give them their final life dreams. 

I got to the campground as soon as I could and when I get there she was not there and her truck was gone! I rushed over to the management office. The manager told me the paramedics didn't take her to the hospital. She did not know where she was. But all of the other employees and volunteers knew. They were all aware of the situation and they all knew she had gotten into her truck and drove out go the campground! She had even stopped to chat with an employee before she left!!!!! Are you kidding me? She was confused, delirious, delusional, her speech was slurred and they allowed her to drive?!?!?! Do they not realize if she killed someone or got into an accident that THEY would be liable? One man told me flat out that they don't stop people from coming or going and they don't think it is their responsibility! Are you kidding me! Better still, the manager told me she needed me to move my rv. I told her I was taking my wife to the hospital. She said I hadn't paid for the time. I got her to come back to the campground. She was slurring her speech, was disoriented, delirious, paranoid and stumbling cumbsily. I took her to the hospital. The treated her for dehydration. She was in the ER until 11pm. She asked me to take her home. She was badly cut up from the fall and crawling on the dirt and gravel. Both legs were badly scraped up. She was in pain and wanted to sleep in her own bed. I took her home to Pasadena. 

The next day I called to tell them I was arranging for my trailer to be removed. They demanded I get it out right away & "we will not renew your stay." Meaning I couldn't pay for extra time. I tried to explain why I needed the time. My wife was still sick and was the only one who knew how to pack, put up and tow the trailer. The woman talked over me and hung up on me! I called back and it turned ugly. First I asked for her name, and she smarted off asking for mine. I gave it to her and she refused to give me her name. I again tried to explained how sick my wife was and that I was getting people there but after 12pm. She said we had to be gone by noon and they would not extend our stay, even though I offered to pay for the time so I could work out getting the trailer. The male manager said, "we rent little lots of land & you are costing us money." I was so angry! My very sick wife was in a delirium, was the only one who knows how to manage the trailer and they were demeaning, rude, cruel and hostile. The female had the nerve to say that they had been tolerant because it was a medical crisis but we needed to leave. I have never been so outraged and angry before! It was unbelievable! I cried for hours. They were so condescending and cruel towards both myself and my wife. I asked for the owners name and number. The male manager said that they are there so that the owner has privacy and he refused to give me the information! 

While i was there packing the trailer around 11am, they made it a point to harass me! The female manager came and said, "you are checking out right?" I said I was moving as fast as I could doing it alone (we have a hybrid trailer/tent) which takes a lot of work to set up and take down. She snubbed me blatantly. I was appalled by our treatment. Even the hospital staff said they were liable for letting My wife drive while she was obviously incapable of safely operating a motor vehicle. Shame on them!
