I recently saw similar reports on this website and am filing a report to concur and provide an affirmation. Mammoth Mountain ski area AKA "Mammmoth" advertised their special MVP Season Ski Pass a few years ago as an exclusive club. For those that didn't purchase it, they would forever be shut out of future MVP Season pass offerings. The attraction was that this pass, purchase on the interenet, offered a low season pass price. However, the catch was that individuals would only be eligible for the pass if they bought it each and every year. If they didn't buy it one year, then they would forever be precluded from obtaining the special season pass price again.
As others reported, we bought the pass in some years strictly so we wouldn't be precluded in subsequent years. There were years where we were living out of the area and didn't ski enough for the pass to make financial sense (that year). However, we continued to buy it for fear of not being able to obtain the pricing in subsequent seasons. In addition, my wife had a 2 season ending injury, yet we still bought the pass for the same reason. Last season, Mammoth Mountain went back on their word and began to sell the passes to the open public again. In essence they sold us an exclusive price guarantee, when in fact it was worthless. I know many others feel this way, but Mammoth Mountain really did cost us thousands of dollars needlessly and we feel ripped off like many others.
