Took almost 2 weeks to do a basic throttle cable and gear cable swap on my boat with twin 200 Mercury outboards. He would make appointment and not show for 2 days, and then he would call me with bunch of excuses. If and when he showed up he would tell you ill be there first thing in the morning at 9AM and not show up till 3-4 pm, work for an hour and leave.

I originally had him there to do throttle and gear cables on my twin outboards, but I figured while I have him here why not him fix my fish live well boxes since they were not working. While he was there the first time I asked him to change that as well.

Due to his incompetence he changed the wrong pump and when I asked him nicely to please correct the issue, he told me it was my boat and I should know where the pump was and that he is not responsible for changing the wrong pump. Then he told me he would find and change the correct pump for 2 hours labor plus the cost of parts. When I told him thats not what we agreed to, and to just put the old pump back into the pump and change the fish well pump like we agreed to, he told me thats not his problem and that I was trying to hustle him out of the money. Please keep in mind this was the last time he came over the course of almost 2 weeks.

The whole time I was remaining respectful and told him to do what we agreed on, for the price he agreed on. He also said the boat would be just as clean as it was when he started and would clean the grease and work stains at the end of the job, and the last day (before we realized there was a problem with him changing wrong pump) said if he wanted to clean up the mess, it would be an hours labor which is crazy. 

I first gave him $500 deposit, then another $500 what he called (progress fee) which is something I would never do but he seemed like a nice honest guy and at the time according to him, job would be done in an hour tomorrow. A $400 balance remained.

As mentioned earlier, all I wanted him to do was to correct his mistake DUE TO HIS INCOMPETENCE, and he stormed off. I followed him, arguing with him to finish the job and all he did was keep calling me a hustler and a low life and threatened me 3 times saying he was going to put a mechanics lien on my boat for the $400 balance, meanwhile I just told him to correct the issue and ill pay him the $400 balance right there (cash was in my pocket). While he was walking to his work van, we were arguing, I was trying to get him to come back and resolve the issue and he was calling me a "low life hustler". My father heard and saw us arguing and came outside, and then he pretty much repeated the same story to my father. At this point he was hanging outside the driver side door, this time he called my father a low life hustler. My father in choice words replied to "Go the **** home buddy". And Rick Hubbard, the owner of the company, the man I was dealing with the whole time told my father "GO BACK TO YOUR **CKIN COUNTRY YOU HUSTLER, YOUR BOAT WILL BE MINE IN A WEEK" and drove away (He knew we are immigrants/minorities).

Now I have to spend money on fiberglass safe strong cleaning agents to remove the grease stains and work marks on the boat, which will not come out with regular boat soap and every boater knows these cleaning agents are expensive and take a lot of work to remove. He left stains and marks everywhere, the fiberglass throught the inside of my boat from console to transom is filthy. Ontop of that I have to locate, buy, then reinstal a new pump for my fishwell boxes.

Upon researching Rick Hubbard and Marine Maintenance Group (MMG), there are SEVERAL complaints on websites like RipOffReport, better business bureau, craigslist posts still active saying how he scammed people, lied and stole from them and also multiple lawsuits against him for similar things. Check the NYS Court Records ( literally, google that exact term), go to "Web Civil Local" type "Rick Hubbard" and/or Marine Maintenance Group. 

Upon further research he is NOT bonded and his insurance has lapsed many times (including currently). And upon even further research (first page of google) he is a DISBARRED ATTORNEY, he was disbarred in 2003. Im sure he was doing shady and illegal things while practicing law, which is the only way you can be disbarred. Classic pattern of being a lifelong liar, crook, and scumbag. From basic research you can tell this guy has a lifelong history of being a shady crook, thief, and a racist.

Long story short do your research before hiring any boat mechanic (or anyone performing a service on anything you own). I learned the hard way.
