I purchased a used truck on November 5th 2006 from Maroone Ford of Margate, FL. I spent around $27,000.00 for the 2003 ford f-350 4x4 that had around 45,000 miles. The vehicle was purchased as is with no warranty besides the factory 100,000 mile warranty on the 7.3L diesel engine.
It seemed to be in fairly good condition no major problems. The second day the truck broke down and i had to have it towed at my expense back to the dealership that was around 25 miles away from my house. After picking the vehicle was picked up I immediately tried to get it into the trusted Maroone Ford dealership in delray beach which i have purchased multiple vehicles from in the Unfortuantely i could not get it in to have it looked at for several weeks.
When I finally did they had some very disturbing news for me. The entire front suspension was shot(which they considered completely unsafe to drive)$2000.00, the torque convertor bearing was shot transmission slipping $2,400.00, shifter plunger & mechanism was bad $700.00, both front bearings were gone and u-joints, $900.00 The turbo had sand in it $2,400.00, the computer had a water line in it and sand, there was no muffler on it just a straight pipe $700.00, radiator was shot $400.00, intercooler had sand in it $1,500.00, a hydraulic hose ruptured and sprayed power steering fluid all over.
The list goes on every day i drive it, when dealership follow up on customer satisfaction was sent- I responded with no results what so ever. I could understand minor repairs on a used vehicle but this is insane to sell someone a vehicle that has obviously been under water at somepoint and should definitely have had a salvage title, which is Florida state law.

Final Resort

I have a relative who had a similar situation at Maroone. He attempted to go through all the proper channels to resolve the issue, to no avail. So, he went and invested a few dollars into some posterboard and markers and sat outside Maroone holding a sign that said to not deal with with Maroone.. they are misleading and do not stand behind their products (something to that effect...different language). They tried to intimidate him to get him to leave, even called the police. My relative wasn't breaking any laws.. so the police couldn't do anything.
He was out there for 4 days. The dealership wound up giving him what he wanted. They couldn't tolerate the bad press. It seems awful extreme to have to resort to this, but it worked. I know of a few people with bad experiences with Maroone.. and only my relative "beat" them, so to speak.
Just thought I would share the "final resort" approach. Good luck to you.

Vehicle sounds like it was extremely Katrina-tized. Reading the word "sand" so many times just made me cringe.

Yes, this seems hard to believe. Especially if your in my shoes. I drove the vehicle and for the most part everything seemed fine. But it had been patched together just enough to make a sale on it and get it off thier hands to someone as unlucky as myself. This is a nightmare come true. I am not wealthy and the bills are stacking up on this truck. I pray it makes it untill something finally gets resolved and possibly reimburssed for my aggrivation and thousands in repairs. Every mechanic that i take it to seems in disbelief as well. They all said take it back to them and leave it on thier parking lot. I just cant believe that this is legal to do to a customer. Any help or info will be much appreciated.

I cannot believe that a test drive even around the block in this truck wouldn't have immediately revealed these major defects. Something is wrong here but in any event you need to take the Margate dealership to court. New Mexico has a 15 day implied warranty on all used vehicles. You may have the same thing in Florida. I wonder if this was one of the Katrina hurricane vehicles that was under water. Sounds like it.
