MCI Allowing minors to accept charges Cedar Rapids Iowa

MCI placed a charge on my AT&T phone bill for a collect call totalling $126.85. Neither my husband nor I accepted this charge. MCI allowed a minor child to take the call, however, this child had absolutely no idea about this being a collect call, and being a minor he has no authority to accept charges on our behalf.

MCI did not ask the child's age. They did not ask for an adult or accountholder. They did not explain that it was a collect call. They did not explain anything about it being a collect call or about it having charges. The child was clueless and was not informed, as no one spoke to him on the line (there was no actual person connecting the call, it was done by machines apparently). My son is not an idiot and he knows how to use the phone. All he could hear was a machine voice then the voice of the person who called. He did not say "yes" to anything.

It is not correct for MCI to allow minors to take a call such as this without asking for the adult or explaining anything whatsoever. This is like getting a minor to agree to a contract, which is not legal or binding. MCI will not take the charges off and refuses to do anything about it. They need to be stopped from allowing vague collect calls to be placed and need to stop allowing minors to take these calls.
