On April 6th I used a MC debit card in a deli in a casino. The processing agent for the card machine and Bordertown OutPost Casino Deli Is Merchant Link I have since found out. I have made multiple calls to Bordertown OutPost Casino where I have spoken to a manager named Jennifer, and two people in accounting that informed me the double debit was caused by Merchant Link. I was ONE of many. After talking to Bordertown at least 10 times over two weeks, they told my who problem was and I send an email to beth.mcgarrity@merchantlink.com
She forwarded the email and I immediately was called by Crystal at Merchantlink. At first they tried to say it had to be another Merchantlink. But then after some checking found out it was their problem.
I talked To Crystal multiple times and she was very helpful on 5-4-2012. She informed me that problem stemmed from Bordertown not giving them the batch info until 4-28 so that they could correct problem.
SO on 5-4, we left conversation with her telling me that the problem should be resolved in 7-10 days. Today 5-15 I call back as I still haven't received my credit.
She informed me the issue was marked closed on 5-6, and after giving her last 4 digits of my MC, that I am not in the batch they fixed.
So Friday it will be 6 weeks, and I am told the best thing I can do is contact my bank and dispute the charge.
If this is the way Merchant Link and Bordertown do accounting, Be leary of using any cards for anything that Merchant Link services.

As the Marketing & Communications Manager for Merchant Link, I would like to respectfully clarify what we believe happened in this particular situation. [Beth McGarrity]

While we understand no one likes to get the runaround when they are trying to investigate and resolve a credit card billing statement issue, there are procedures that Merchant Link and the credit card bank must follow to ensure the reversal doesnt cause bigger issues.  We do understand this customers frustration.

Merchant Link serves as the payment gateway for Bordertown Outpost Casino.  Merchant Links gateway carries payment information from the point-of-sale to the credit card bank. In this capacity, the gateway cannot cause double debits to occur. Errors such as double posting and multiple debits may occur at the point-of-sale terminal, or in some cases at the credit card bank, through human or computer error.  This is not a frequent occurrence.

A gateway provider like Merchant Link can however help correct issues such as duplicate transactions when they occur. In this case, Merchant Link was not alerted by the merchant about it, but when their customer contacted us on May 3rd, we pulled the credit card records and worked with Bordertown Outpost Casino and their credit card bank, and credited the customer on the merchants behalf. We make every attempt to resolve issues as quickly as possible but each case requires investigation, receipt of necessary documentation and permission from the merchant.

As technology advances every year, the reality is that credit card related transaction issues sometimes occur. This customers case highlights the importance of carefully reviewing your credit card statements for possible errors or fraudulent charges. When issues occur, Merchant Link is here to assist merchants in resolving them. Our mission is to provide the highest level of service, security and support in the payments industry and were committed to that.  We value our clients and work diligently to ensure issues like these are kept to a minimum.
