I purchased a used car from this dealership. On the same day I made a downpayment and completed the paperwork I noticed the car was burning.
I took the vehicle back and the owner said it was only an oil leak. He kept giving me the run around about the car until I finally found out that the headgasket was gone.
I wasted over 1500.00 on a car I didn't even get to use. Unscrupulous used car dealers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law just as any other thieves. They prey on those who do not have the means or credit to purchase new vehicles and these are often the most impoverished people who have to work hard for every penny.
It is time to stop allowing used car dealers to hide behind "as is clauses."

NY has adopted the "warranty of merchantibililty" sections of the UCC. All used car dealers in NY are required to provide certain documents with the auto purchase informing you of your rights under NYS law.
You may file a complaint at the Office of the Attorney General website or mail a written complaint.
Also, you should consult with a competant attorney. It's very likely you can use your local small claims court to get your money back.
Good luck.
