I was contacted by phone and allowed them to access my computer. I KNOW.. my son told me to never do this! Anyway, they proceeded to show me multiple errors on my computer. While he was doing this I became suspicious and asked him to stop and disconnect from my computer - he became very rude and told me to shut up and that I should stick a "dog up my a*s"
Bottom line he installed a SysKey virus which forces a password at the start of the computer. He said that I needed to pay him $99 in order for him to provide that passowrd. I called my son, who got a hold of him and argued with him some more and he eventually hung up on my son. I ended up taking the PC down to BestBuy Geek Squad and removed the SysKey (for a lot of money).
I wish that someone would find these people who prey on the elderly and rip us off. Once found they should be drawn and quartered - they would know not to do it again!

This is in regards to going to BestBuy for the costly repair. Read my article on BestBuy. You paid them to remove the lock put on your PC but what you don't know is geeksquad has at the same time infected your PC which will take effect long after the repair warranty runs out. The free optimizations to speed up your new PCs, the free virus checks, or even paying them to install a driver, you actually paid them to infect your system and will have no choice but to pay them again to fix the issue. It's a repeating cycle. Don't take my word for it, just walk by the desk and watch them do a free virus scan on a PC, listen on how they tell the customer their pc is infected and how paying a few hundred dollars will fix their pc. After they are done, watch where that flash drive goes after it was in the other pc. You will see them put it in the next system infecting it as well. The best way to break the cycle, if your PC is an all in one, buy restore DVDs and an external USB drive, plus an internet security program from the box, not one you got to download. Back up your data like pictures, links, music, and then use the restore DVDs to boot off of so no viruses get loaded into memory and format your hard drive and reinstall the operating system. Boot pc up and install antivirus, update then scan the external drive for infections. If all's fine copy the data back to the pc. Ever wonder how top security in our country gets hacked despite how top of the line the software is? It's because geeksquad does a lot of government contracts and its their sloppy infected equipment that let the hackers in, in the first place.also to save heartache, if you get a new PC, don't accept the free services and make a image backup yourself. It's easy. It's not like the old msdos days where you need to learn every command. BestBuy will one day join the large list of failed companies like RadioShack and CompUSA. History repeats itself, and so does curropt stores.
