I found Milestone Marketing on careerbuilder.com as a job for entry level marketing. It promoted entry level management, entry level sales, and entry level marketing. They offered paid training, outstanding growth opportunity, travel opportunities, and performance based compensation?
Sounds like a perfect first job for a recent college grad, right? It's not! This company/job, along with many like it, is a scam. They bring you in for an interview process. The first interview is informational and they continue to pitch the same appealing propaganda that their job posting had. It's a huge waste of time because it's just a rehash of everything you already know, but glorified. The second interview, they tell you the gig. They sell Direct TV and Vizio. That's it. They pay you to "train" (learn about the product) then you hit the street running doing door to door sales. You use your own vehicle and resources and by the end of the week, you've spent more than the commission you've made. Essentially, you're working for free or worse, paying to work.
The "management" aspect comes when you have already drank the kool aid and you buy into this cult. Then, you can open your own division and hire your own employees to do the sales. They make you pay for your own office space and offer little to no support. You invest more into this scam than you will ever make out of it.
College grads (and people seeking employment in general) beware of this scam and the countless others like it. If you search "marketing" in monster or careerbuilder, about every other position offered is along the same lines as this. Good luck on finding a real marketing position and stay positive.

False Generalizing On Milestone Marketing Indianapolis

Milestone Marketing in Indianapolis doesn't even DO DOOR-TO-DOOR. They operate under corporate agreements with Sam's, Walmart, Best Buy and others to operate inside the store itself. Theres booths and ads in store for Milestones clients. Each store gets paid a certain amount to allow it. And each store offers deals, discounts, and gift cards for purchasing the product or service therein.
Menards for example offers a 100 gift card for signing up for directv in-store through milestone. Called "in-store marketing".I dont know of any of those other marketing companies that have such a deal. Do you? It gives the sales rep much more credibility since the store has an agreement with the clients they market for. Not the case with door-to-door or business-to-business. So, Get your facts straight.
Marketing/Sales isn't for everyone but some of us are very good at it. That is why it's still the industry with the most six-figure salaries by far. On the directv side of the business, even at the entry level, signing someone up is a minimum of 100 bucks on up to 250 depending upon ones position. Its actually one of the few legitimate, decent potential opportunities out there. So, don't put it in the same category as other firms which are absolute ripoffs.
