Mitch Powell owner of M&P Home Improvesments was hired to remodel a laundry room, bathroom and add a room addition. He was paid $11,000 at the start of the work. He's workmanship is scarey to say the least. He was to raise the laundry & bathroom floors to meet the kitchen floor. That he did, then when he added the room addition, some how he forgot to have that floor meet the raised floor. All but one of his subcontractors did a half you know what job at everything they did. They installed a bathroom window and said the ceiling had to be at an angle because of the window we purchased. I told him I own a flooring business and I would not dream of making excuses for half you know what work. That's the amazing part I make a living as a contractor, a flooring contractor. Out of all things he should have known that I would realize that the floor was not level. And I told him from the start everything had to be handicap ready so if my mother would ever be in a wheel chair we wouldn't have to change anything. We did without a bathroom in our house for over 9 weeks. He acted like it was no big deal. One of his guys fell through the roof and he also had installed a check valve on our sump pump, I told him it was leaking and he fixed that about 4 weeks after I told him about it. Our basement filled with water as to if the water was coming in through the roof or the check valve or the fact that he took the gutters out the house in April and we didn't get new gutters on until June was the reason for all the water or not I'm not for sure. His liability company refused to pay for any damages. He filed a mechanics lein for the full balance due. Doesn't matter to him that the job is not complete or the amount of money we've had to spend to try to get his half you not what work fixed.

Also he was to get another $10,000 when the bathroom and laundry room were complete. Well, I guess I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree either. He ask for $5,000 on May 17 he said to pay for the new roof, heating&cooling, and gutters to be done. I told him fine but they had to be done by the end of May. Well, you guessed it it wasn't and a few months later I find out that he got a DUI in Franklin County Ohio about a week before he ask us for more money. So the other $5,000 is my fault because I should've said sorry but the bathroom and laundry are not done. It amazes me that some contractors do such bad jobs and make a living at it. I wonder how I stay in business. Because I couldn't sleep at night if I did people like that. What happened to treat people the way you want to be treated in return. There's a whole lot more to be told about this contractor and I know for a fact that he's getting ready to start two more room addition. I feel sorry for those people and hope they don't have to go through what we've went through. Just so you know he started all of this on March 22, 2004 and guess what none of it is done as of day July 4, 2005.
