My Benefit Wallet - Bank of NY Mellon Conned and Disrespected With Regard to HSA Account Nationwide

My frustrating experiences with My Benefit Wallet were so very similar to other complaints I have read, that I felt compelled to file my own complaint to reinforce the notion that the bad behavior of this company is systemic.

My first experience was a check was sent to the wrong service provider.  To get a copy of the check to confirm the mistake, My Benefit Wallet charges $15.  They are happy to charge the $15, but they never sent us the copy of the check. When we called up to complain, they said they would charge another $15 if we wanted as second copy.  When we explained that we never got the first copy, they, and I quote, called us a "liar".  Then they said, oh yea, I see on the screen you did request a check copy.  But, when prompted, they refused to apologize for calling us names.

My second bad experience is when I went to close my account having wisely switched to a different HSA.  There was a $6.25 balance remaining, and I wanted to close the account rather than incur the monthly management fee of $3.50 forever. I called, and My Benefit Wallet agreed to send me a check for the balance of the account.  However, they claimed I had to call back after I cashed the check and when the balance was physically zero to actually close out the account.  They claimed this was required due to "banking regulations.”  However, while the check was in the mail to me, My Benefit Wallet charged another $3.50 to my account and so when I cashed the check, it bounced.  For this, I received a $25 returned check charge from my bank and a $25 NSF charge from My Benefit Wallet.  When I called to complain, they blamed it on me by first saying that I should not have written the check on the account. When I pointed out that "they" wrote the check, the claimed I should have cashed the check sooner.  When I pointed out that the check was in the mail at the time they posted the new management fee, they told me I was just not listening to their explanation.  Additionally, they would bill me for the now $22 negative balance in my account.

How this company stays in business I don't know.  Since I am on the Benefits Committee for our company, I asked Cigna why they made their customers use My Benefit Wallet when this HSA was rated among the worst of all HSA's in the business.  Their silence spoke volumes.
