On December of 2008 I received a recording at my home with president obama's voice and some brief information regarding the credit crisis and the possibility of reducing my credit card debt. I was prompted to press one to get more information. When I was transferred I spoke with a so called Debt consultant who indicated they worked for a law firm with an "A" rating with the better business bureau. Little did I know this A stood for (Another Scam) I was told they could reduce my debt in half and represent me in court if I was sued. I was considering bankruptcy but they told me I would be able to resolve my debt in 24 months and maintain a good credit rating and was assured I was being provided legal representation. In short, 11 months later the majority of my money has gone to the fee's associated with the program. My bank account has been frozen by a judgement awarded to chase bank. When I called client services regarding this issue and another court date no legal representation was offered. My credit is worse than if I had a bankruptsy and I have lost thousands of dollars. I was desperate and these clever profiteers capitalized on my situation. Please report your situation if you have been victomized.

Thanx for the information

Wow! someone with some integrity is actually paying attention. I really appreciate your information not to mention your objectivity and ability to reconize that the so called employee at stratton and feinstein had absolutely nothing to say regarding the subject of the complaint. Its clear to me there is no disputing the misrepresentation that is taking place by the law firm's employee's regarding the reality of their platform. It is also quit clear that not only is the program no different than any debt settlement program but its even more dangerous to imply a consumer's has true attorney representation. I would like anyone considering this approach to realize they will tell you whatever you need to hear to get your money! The entire first four payments go right to these profiteers! Than they continue to collect fees for the next 11 months.....if you total up your payments ie. (your monthly fee x the length of your term) you will see it is more than the 18cents on the dollar they claim you are spending. Oh by the way in most cases you can reach a settlement on your own that may be as little as the 18 cents these crooks make you pay. My story has been forwarded to the Attorney General... so keep your eyes open! "justice will be served"

Why not actually rebut the report?

Interesting comment. I didn't know the BBB gave "grades." And I concur with the OP: you can take the time to point out the timeline flubs, but apparently you can't rebut the substance of the report?

For the OP: I'm sorry to hear of your experience. The truth that these outfits will never tell you is that the VAST majority of their clients are unable to achieve the marketed goals. Most of them will likely end up filing bankruptcy.

Even within the bankruptcy system the majority of Chapter 13s, which include repayment plans, are converted to Chapter 7s (liquidation with no repayment plan).

Usually, by the time someone is considering some kind of debt consolidation or credit counseling, bankruptcy would be a better option for them.

With a Chapter 7, your debt to asset ratio makes a dramatic shift as of the discharge. Thus, many people see an increase in their credit score immediately following a bankruptcy.

With a settlement/repayment plan, your debts are still active for some time and will, in the end, show as a slow, partial pay.

Especially seeing as you now have a judgment debt, I would recommend consulting with a bankruptcy attorney. Most of them will do a free initial consultation.

Makes no sense

Interesting comment.  Obama was inaugurated in January of 09, so why and how would he be on the recording as president if he hadn't even been put in office?  Not to mention the speech was made after January as well for the stimulus package that is on the recording.  And fyi we had an A+ rating at that time not an A.
