This is a company that recruits people to extract court record information for their background investigation business. They pay you a per-name search fee of around $3.00 to $4.00 per name to go to various courthouses and determine whether the person has a criminal conviction or civil suit.

I began doing work with the company in early April 2009, with the promise that I would be clearing close to 400-600 names per month. In April, I earned a paltry $164.00, but in May, I had earned a little over $300 within the first two weeks.

The problem is, the company requires you to submit your invoice on the 5th of the month following the month the work was done (they pay once a month) and the check would be sent out on the 10th (or the following business day if the 10th was on a weekend). After waiting a week, I called to find out where my $164 was (by this time I had already "earned" another $300). I was told it would be to me shortly, as it had been processed.

A few days later, I called again, and spoke to Lesley Cole, the owner of the company, and she said my payment would be sent to me around the 21st, because I was new with their firm and all my work had to be audited for accuracy. I was never told that in the beginning.

Once I complained, the company started sending me fewer names per day.

I complained about that, and they cut me off entirely. I suspect that they don't have any intention of sending the money to me at all, and that what they do is get people to work as long as they can, getting the information they want/need, then when it's time to pay, they stall you then stiff you.

So here I am, after 6 weeks of driving around on my own gas, with NOTHING to show for it.

Don't get caught up in this scam. Get a written agreement if you want to do this kind of work. In a bigger city, it can be profitable, but check them out first.

Ignorance once again of pre-employment screening

AUTHOR: Lesley Cole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 22, 2009

National Source Public Records, Inc. provides employment screening not private investigations. Joe thinks that background checks are done on the internet, searches are done by researchers that go to a county courthouse and complete searches. All searches are done by signed release from applicants and I done with strict adherence to the Federal Fair Credit Reporting. We do not conduct background checks for private individuals. We are aware our responsibility to the public better than Joe does. This profession has been in existence for over 100 years. I guarantee that when Joe looks for a job- a company will do a background check on him. That company could be in be in California or Georgia but wherever he is a researcher will go to the courthouse in his county and check him out. These individuals are taking about a business they have no idea of running. This company has been doing business for 21 years, does anyone really think that the only thing we do is check a criminal history for an applicant. A pre-employment screening encompass many facets and how we audit our reseachers is no mystery. It is simple - if a company has been in business for 21 years don't you think we have done searches in a particular county before, and if we send a name that had a criminal history in 2005 and send it to a new researcher that is just started to work as a contractor in 2009 if they find the same record or didn't find the same record. There work has been audited. Any researcher we hire will be sent known records that is an audit. Some of the largest company in the United States research over 20,000 names a day and they audit their researchers, by just that method.

There is an old saying read before you make judgments, get a book on background investigations, look at the million of websites for background companies.

People that are ignorant of this profession need to go to a library if they don't trust the internet and read a bit.

For the other comment no one should enter a profession if they don't understand what a contractor is and what a 1099 is. For over 21 years this is the first time I have experienced a contractor not understanding what this business was. We get calls everyday from individuals that want to do courthouse researcher. And companies throughout the United States, utilizes the services of contractors they have not met. We have contractors in India, Puerto Rico, Canada, and all 3,000 + counties of the U.S.

And we audit all of them for accuracy of their work. We represent our clients and we audit and audit and audit to ensure again the safety of our clients when they hire applicants.,not the contractors and Joe's that have no knowledge of this .
profession.

Joe, why don't you read the section on doing background checks, or doesn't your course teach you anything about the other aspect of law, about torts, accident investigations, insurance investigations, legal investigations. All which this company has the capability of doing. We are professionals in our field with many satisfied clients and researchers.

This is the end of this! A staff person took one call from someone claiming to be able to do research in counties in Georgia, how I wish that on that day he had got a busy signal. What a waste of time and I am here wasting it instead of completing the assignments for my clients.

THE END

National Source Public Records - MY total misunderstanding.

AUTHOR: Leglegl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 22, 2009

This turned out to be a total misunderstanding, mostly on my part, but due heavily upon misinformation or miscommunication from the company. They have paid the invoice as promised, although it was not communicated to me that there would be a 10 day delay on the first payment.

I do understand now why they would do that, but it should be communicated to the vendor in the beginning.

All parties involved here are culpable for the incident that led to this.

National Source Public Records, in my opinion, IS a reputable company, but perhaps needs to communicate clearly and concisely with their independent contractors as to their procedures.

The unfortunate thing is that there are entirely too many disreputable companies who are taking advantage of people in these tough economic times, which raises suspicion when something like this happens. I regret having drawn a conclusion about National Source Public Records that does not accurately reflect the integrity of their operations.

I am convinced that National Source Public Records is a legitimate and reputable company.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Sounds like to me to avoid ALL "WORK AT HOME EMPLOYMENT" using the Internet

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 21, 2009

I too saw the same ad and was intrigued because I AM a trained investigator and I AM taking paralegal classes !

With all of the scams on the Internet these days, it is very hard to tell the HONEST EMPLOYERS from the NIGERIAN, RUSSIAN MAFIA, UKRANIAN SCAMMERS and so I DO NOT DO BUSINESS with ANYONE for ANY reason on the Internet and if this gentleman feels he was ripped off then he needs to AVOID participating in this sort of income - earning OPPORTUNITY now and in the future by NOT responding to any advertisement that promises to pay you later for research that you do now..

Why would you waste your time hiring someone to do the field research iof you can not trust them? These professionals who check on their work cost money so how can anyone make money if they have to hire someone else to audit these new folks? You would have saved time and money had you used them in the first place!

I am curious. That is not how I would run a business personally.

This is also not the way I do a background investigation. Especially since I do not know for sure where that background information is going!

For all I know, some stalker is using it to locate a victim.

THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE CASE BUT HOW DO I KNOW FOR SURE?

I did not get to live this old by being stupid and suspicious as hell.

STAY AWAY FROM ALL WORK AT HOME USING THE INTERNET EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES!

If you can't trust anybody and I TRUST NOBODY IN CYBERSPACE!

NOVICE RESEARCHER WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIVE BUSINESS

AUTHOR: Lesley Cole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 21, 2009

Rick Plymale called our company on April 4,2009 offering his services as a researcher of court records for 8 remote counties in Georgia. We always have several researchers in all U.S. counties to provide our clients accurate and timely background checks. Mr. Plymale was igiven his first assignment on April 8, 2009. A search that he was paid $3.25 the fee he agreed to search the name for. For work that takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. Mr. Plymale was an independant contractor NEVER an employee of this corporation. He was told that his income on the number of names that was being checked for criminal history for employment. We do not get names out of teehe white pages of the telephone book and send names to our researchers. Names are sent to a researcher when our client has an applicant that lived in a certain county. How then can we guarantee any contractor work for a certain amount. If an amount was given it was based on previous search requests. Yes we audit each and every researcher. We must and well protect the interest of our clients, and will continue to audit a new researchers work thoroughly before he is paid. How do we know that a researcher actually went to a courthouse, therefore we send known records and have alll work rechecked by a trained professional in the field. Our clients trust us to provide them with accurate investigations. Mr. Plymale knows nothing of Negligent Hiring Lawsuits, the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act - we will not expose our clients to work from a novice in the field unless it is verified.

In regards to payment as a contractor if he had experience in this profession he would know that payment is made with a Net 30. Mr Plymale submitted an invoice to us on 5/4/2009 with no address on the invoice and with a company name of Pro-Search, when he called and asked why he wasn't paid yet which was the 18th, he was told by me personally that his searches were been audited and that he would receive his check on the 21st of April. Which he has already received payment. His second invoice is also being audited and when all his searches has been confirmed as accurrate he will receive his other payment. He was also told that it would be "helpful" that if he wanted payment to make sure his invoices had an address on it.

This company has been doing background checks for 21 years with researchers all across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. I suggest that Mr. Plymale get a book on how to start a business an understand how business work. He never ws an employee of this company and no salary was guaranteed for him.

Lesley:

Some issues need to be cleared up here.

When I agreed to do these court searches, it was said to me that I would be getting close to 400 to 600 searches per month (according to Beth). That has not yet transpired.

(My response - No one would ever make a promise a researcher a certain amount of work, only that based on he or she getting several clients they could do as many searches as they are sent. If we could predict how many people could be hired from background checks. We certainly could cure the current economic situation and the present unemployment rate. This is ridiculous.)

Furthermore, concerning Order # 213123 if I receive an order after 4 PM on a Friday, I do not consider it having been received until the next business day (Monday). Therefore, my clock starts ticking on Monday morning. After all, I can't sit at my computer waiting for you to trickle these requests to me throughout the day then run back and forth 40 miles round trip to most of the courts I service. If I did that, I'd be paying to do work for you. )..MY RESPONSE - Does not understand he receives orders from our clients when they input them into our system from individuals they are considering hiring. We don't have a list of people that we print from telephone books from his counties)

In early April, when I agreed to do this work for your company, I was told simply to have my invoice submitted by May 5th and the checks would go out by the 10th. Clearly, this time it couldn't go out until the 11th, since the 10th was a Sunday. Now, I'm being told that my check is going out later because my searches had to be audited first. I was never informed of that in the beginning. MY RESPONSE (Again does not understand how to work as a contractor - of couse we will audit his work and all of our contractors for accuracy. This is serious business.

Now, today, I am being given orders in different counties that are srpread out all over this rural area. One in Oconee, one in Putnam, and the "overdue" one in Morgan. To pull this off, I would be driving a total of 100 miles for less than $15.00O MY RESPONSE As a contractor your expense is a part of doing business as an independant contractor.

I'm pretty certain that there is nobody else in this area doing this kind of work for you, and I also suspect that these requests are primarily individual searches, and not part of a bulk listing. Thus, your company is charging around $16.00 and wanting to pay me $3.00 to $4.00. MY RESPONSE Again no understanding of this business, what is a bulk listing??? We do preemployment background screening, not doing criminal searches because we like doing them to get in people business. But to fulfill an order that a client has a signed release from a potential applicant to conduct a criminal history for employment.

Until I receive full payment for ALL searches done TO DATE, I will not be conducting any. Additionally, I intend to take this matter up with the BBB and discuss it with my attorney (yes, I actually do have an attorney, unlike most people who say such things).

Please respond at your earliest convenience.

Rick Plymale
