I have been receiving calls from a man (perhaps several men) utilizing several names, mostly "David Marvin." He/they claimed to represent "Nationwide Grant," a federal agency acting through Bank of America. They informed me that I had been selected to receive a $5000 grant for my stellar tax record. After sounding official enough that I gave them the information they desired (God, I'm an idiot), they called several future times for verification.
On one of these calls they requested I transfer $500 to a Western Union account in New Delhi to "verify that you are who you say you are." Once they requested this, I knew I had been scammed, and refused. On several future occasions they continued to ask if I had made the transfer, and I eventually tired of their shenanigans and asked that they never call me again.
They often used four-digit phone numbers such as 1014, but most of the calls have come from numbers with the 973 or 979 area codes, which correspond to parts of New Jersey and Texas, respectively.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANT WEBSITES AND OFFERS ARE SCAMS - PERIOD

Government Grant Scams from consumeraffairs.com
The "free money" scam has been around almost as long as the human species.
It has more variations than a bulldog has wrinkles but you can count on one thing: the government (any government) does not simply give money away to individuals.
Anyone who tells you differently has larceny in his heart. If you give him your bank account number, he will soon have your funds in his pocket.
It does no good to list all of the names used by these bunko artists because a.) they change all the time and b.) every single free-money government-grant offer is a scam. Period.
Another article I read stated that most of these bogus grant sites and scams came to being with Obama's election with the sole purpose to STEAL YOUR MONEY or Identity
Info is out there to protect you - you can find it on the internet - just add SCAM to your serach criteria - its amazing what you can find when you are willing to look for it.
