Provided low cost binding proposal for $1475.00 to move from California to Colorado. Advised rate includes complete inventory regardless of actual weight or square footage. Movers arrived late. Movers did not have sufficient manpower to move all items of furniture. Movers were advised no additional packing or supplies necessary as all items were packed and ready to be loaded.

Movers took excess smoking breaks, took 8 hours to move majority of furniture, rewrapped all furniture in bubble and saran wrap even after he was told not to.

Upon completion, they provided total price of $3300.00 and stated if I don't sign and pay the total, they will put all furniture back. I advised to put all items back and refused the amount. After refusal they reduced the rate to $2500.00. Again I asked that all items be returned to home. At this time they agreed to work on details of price the following day when the office was open and left the premise.

The movers left a $1400.00 entertainment center at the top of the stairs at apartment complex unsecured. Today is day five and it still is not picked up. I was told it would be picked up the following day. Then told they didn't have the personnel to lift it and it would be another day. I was then told the moving truck broke down. The next day I was told they refused to pick it up until I agreed to pay $3300.00. Finally I was promised a pick up that day and it still hasn't happened.

This is the largest scam I have ever witnessed. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint as well as contacted an attorney. It looks like I'll be seeing them in court.

The FBI has FINALLY arrested several owners of scam moving companies.
read about it here: http://www.justice.gov/usao/fls/moving%20companies.html

if you've been a victim, make sure to register a complaint. when they liquidate
the property they seized from the scammers, victims have a chance of getting restitution.

Melanie, here are some others you might want to contact in your search for justice:

Thomas Petri in the United States House of Representatives, is SUPPOSEDLY working on legislation that will
stop scam movers. He is supposed to be introducing this legislation very soon. We need to encourage him.

Rep. Thomas Petri Chairman Subcommittee on Highways & Transit U.S. House of Representatives

Mr. Harrison is using AMSA dues money to lobby Congress AGAINST badly needed regulation

Agent Bill Schurik, Lou Scherone or Greg Nelson of the FBI:
Miami-Dade FBI office at 305-944-9101

The investigative zeal of the FBI has not been very impressive but they are supposed to
be investigating this mafia of moving scam companies.

Office of Enforcement and Compliance
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation

The DOT is so understaffed, they're not even able to enforce their own regulations, but you should call anyway
and register a complaint.
