I received my electronic home phone bill and noticed it was more than what it should be. Upon reviewing my bill, I noticed a collect call charge under the long distance section of my bill from an unfamiliar number at a time when I no one was home. I could not call the number to check who it belonged to because I do not have long distance service on my phone.

I called the number provided on my phone bill for OSP communications. I was advised there was a long wait and I might want to call back later but I stayed on for about 20 minutes and someone finally answered. They started by asking my number and then the charge I was questioning - but I never even said the purpose of my call before he asked. When he "looked" at the charge, he said he sees it was a billing mistake and they they would credit my bill in 3 to 4 billing cycles. I told him he could credit me all he wants but I would not pay this part of the bill and I would call AT & T and advise them of this. I told him it was unacceptable to have to wait so long for a billing mistake. He just repeated it would be credited in 3 to 4 cycles. I hung up.

I decided to do a web search for the company and came across this web site. After doing some reading, I couldn't believe it. I was going to sign up for automatic payment of my bill but decided not to so I could review my bill and then pay it. If I had autpmatic payment, it would have been paid before I realized there was a problem. Since reading some of these reports, I called the fraud department of the phone company and will make a report with the attorney general's office of my state. I suspect I will never see the credit for the call.

I wish someone would pick up this scam and take action against the company. We are the ones who noticed but I imagine, based on other phone call and long distance scams of the past, that there are many who have paid the bill and not even noticed. Luckily my bill is almost exactly the same each month so the additional charge was obvious to me. Please, someone pick this up and run with it!!!
