In search of the best mortgage rates, I contacted experion.com and my info was forwarded to three online mortgage companies. After a scary experience with Quickenloans I checked this website and was able to cancel before they charged me a $500 application fee. I was not so lucky with PennWest, they asked for my card info for the credit check and immediately charged my bankcard without permission and without any commitment or signature on my part.

They said they misunderstood and would refund the $500 but I had told them of my experience with Quicken and they did the exact thing I was worried about. Are all these companies unethical? I have filed a complaint with my bank and can only hope if PennWest is as dishonest as they appear to be that Wachovia will help me pursue them legally. Luckily my niece is a lawyer as is her fiance, but what about people without that connection? These financial people are as bad as any thief.

Thank goodness Penn State returned my money with no hassle! They were very concerned that I not lump them in with the high pressure companies and accept that it was an honest mistake. I am inclined to believe them because they were prompt and polite even though I was furious with them. I must say they resolved the mistake quickly and with no hassle. I would caution everyone not to give any credit or bank card info until you have actually signed on the dotted line. It is very upsetting to have money disappear from your account.

I talked to the manager at PennState this morning and they assured me they were honest and had already issued a refund to my account. I will post when it comes through. Never give anyone your bank info until you are sure you want to sign , they are so crazy busy they can make a mistake and then you have to go to all the stress associated with a lot of cash disappearing from your bank account. It looks like I was lucky this time and PennState is legitamate, I'll keep ypu posted. Susan
