I haven't been gullible enough to respond to this fake church's begging letter but I want to add my warning to everyone else's.

A year or so ago my husband got the Prayer Mat mailing, which we of course ignored. This time I got the Blessed Deuteronomy Prosperity Cross mailing - three double-sided sheets of hard-sell marketing language designed to make me feel that it was God telling me to give money. And what for?  Not for grace, not for salvation, not for the benefit of those less fortunate than I, or the glory of God, but for selfish ends -MY own selfish financial needs. The biggest headline on the begging letter is: "Power to Get Wealth."

You don't need to send money to someone to pray for you!  You can pray to God yourself, or your local church will be pleased to be a prayer partner for you to help you through those difficulties in life that we all face, all those doubts, all those tough spots where we need spiritual guidance and comfort. And they DON'T ask for money!!!
If you do feel the need to give money to your church, they will provide an annual statement, audited even, clearly showing where their funds came from & where they have gone.  They take stewardship seriously.  Try asking Saint Matthews Churches for an audited financial statement!

I don't have enough words to describe my disdain for organizations like this which prey on good faithful believers, needlessly conning them out of money they can't really afford to send, in order to line their own pockets.

Just do it, or don't do it!

Ask for a financial statement?  I think it's you that reveres money.  When I donate to the church or any agency, I don't ask where it goes.  I don't care.  It's about sacrifice.  If money is so important to you and you feel you cannot afford to sacrifice any, so be it, but quit whining about it.  Go spend it on big macs or go phone minutes.

It doesn't matter to me if it's thrown down a well.  The glory of God?  what is that about?  The sacrifice made is personal but you want to make it a business expense.

The only rip off here is my time to respond to this nonsense.
