R Roesch No real warranty Lancaster Ohio

I have purchased two certified used Hondas from Buckeye Honda in Lancaster, Ohio.  Both came with the Warranty Forever on the engine and drivetrain.  This peace of mind was nice, but the extra cost to do all maintainance at the dealer was a bit of a hassel.  I'm a car guy and I can change the oil, filters, and even the antifreeze myself.  Instead, to keep the warranty in force, I did the work with the dealer.  Even changing the transmission fluid, spark plugs, and other costly features that could have been done elsewhere or not at all.  Never was I informed that the warranty was voided because of a technicality.

As the computer gave me the heads up for oil changes and other maintainane, I called Buckeye Honda and had it done.  There was a time or two during a five year period where I was out of town and called the Warranty Forever number to get permission to have it done elsewhere.  The fineprint states that oil changes must be done within certain mileage and time parameters, even when the computer on the vehicle hasn't told you it needs to be done.  At one point I was out of the country for 6 months, and the car never moved.  I was penalized because I didn't meet the 6 month deadline, even when the car was driven less that a 1000 miles.

I feel dupped by the dealer and the warranty company.  I was never told the warranty had been voided until AFTER I was told that it needed a rear seal that I thought would be covered.

You are money ahead to get your dealer to reduce the price and take OFF the warranty. The money you save taking your car to independent garages will save you enough to pay for a more pricey repair down the line.  I bought a Honda for its longevity.  I didn't really need an extended warranty and most consumer sites tell you they aren't worth the paper they are printed on.  I am angry with both Buckeye Honda and the Warranty Forever.  Both have done what they could to make extra money and hope you sell the car before any real repair is needed.
