My sister-in-law got a letter similar to this with a check but her's said that she had been approved for a grant that she had applied for several years prior. She thought this was legit because she in fact had applied for several grants within the last 10 years. She took the check to Wells Fargo Bank as that is where the check was from and they cashed it. She sent the money. They called her a week later telling her she had to repay it as it was a bad check. Apparently there is nothing they can do about this and they are going to have to pay the bank back for almost $6000.00. I think that this is absurd. She even took the letter with her to show them to make sure it was not a scam and they assured her that it was a legitimate check...this was Wells Fargo Bank. They hav eno choice but to let it ruin their credit at this point because they do not have the money to repay them.

Today I received a letter similar to the ones that everyone here has stated they have received as well. RBM financial is the name on the letter and Stifel Nicolaus & company is the name on the check for $4,815.00. They would like me to send them $3,890.00 for taxes and processing. I knew immediately that this was not legitmiate because of what had happened to my Brother and Sister-In-Law, but I wanted to do a little research. Both Companies are legitimate from what I could find...do they know that their names are being used for these scams??? I would imagine that they do. Also the names that are listed on my letter are Jessica Saint (Saint Jessica? A Catholic saint...wow they are creative) and the other is John Garfield... this would be the creator of Garfield... WOW. They could not do any better than that?

I really hope that this scam can be stopped because it is obvious that it is taking a lot of people and it could really ruin some lives...especially for the young couples and the elderly. Does anyone know where we can report this?
