I went to the emergency room at RHD aka RH Dedman hospital.(no wonder they changed the name) The hospital staff was nothing short of miserable. After watching the intake nurse yell at a woman in labor to get up and walk 25feet to sign a paper,I guess the nurse couldn't be bothered to walk to the woman who is about to spew a baby from her loins.I knew then I should have left, but was in pain so I waited. Finally they call my name,I go to the back and they take my temperature.I get moved to another room where I sit for an hour while listening to the doctor in the hallway complain about being there and how he wanted to play golf.
Also the nurses have no problem discussing their sex lives, complaining about patients, etc.all while there is a hospital full of patients. Finally the doctor comes in,takes my temperature again.I started to explain my problem and he is obviously not even listening or looking at me.He turns around and says "go to an ear nose throat doctor".and left the room.He wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic ($40) that I didn't even need. Then a nurse rushes in with paper work saying she needs $175 dollars for payment.Like a fool I paid.
Then a week later they inform me I owe an additional $65 dollars! "For what" I asked and no one would tell me for what.I went to a regular M.D. 2 days later and he fixed me right up in his tiny office and said he could not believe they let me leave the hospital like that.I would AVOID this hospital at all costs! You would have better luck recovering in a gutter on the street. The gutter would probably be cleaner than RHD anyway.

RHD Memorial Medical Center is a for profit Hospital
My company used to Manage this facilty until 8/07
I have been to the ER many times and never heard Doctors complaining about not wanting to be there cause they are missing golf days, nurses talking about their sex lifes
Maybe you are mistaking RHD for Greys Anatomy - Also the ER is for life threatening emergencies ie - Heart attacks, gun shot wounds, stroke victims etc etc
It is people like you who expect to waited on hand and foot - Get over it
ER medicine is not cheap -
Grow up - when you have head cold call your physician

Emergency Rooms Ripoff

An Emergency Room is only a Rip-Off if you are there for the wrong reasons. In most cases you are charged by the level of care required for your illness, so if you come in with a hang nail, you get a level one ER visit. If you come in with a heart attack, then you get a level 4 visit. Most of your charges are combined into each level of care, with the exception of drugs, diagnostic procedures and supplies.
Emergency rooms are for just thatEmergencies. We save babies, heart attack and stroke victims. Head-on crash victims. You were probably surprised to see that you also received a bill from the ER physician. Since Texas hospitals cannot employee doctors, your ER physician was contracted by the facility and you will get a bill from his company too.
It's not that your cold was not important it was just not an emergency, but since it is a hospital emergency room, we usually will not turn you away. Many people will visit the emergency rooms because they think they will not have to pay for their care. This is true (most of the time) however we can still bill you and we will bill you for the level of care the ER is set up to handle, and since colds or hang nails are not emergencies, we bill the lowest level of care, which would be at a minimum of several hundred dollars.
If you visit an ER, be prepared for the following minimum charges:
Level 1 5 Emergency room charge
ER Physician charges are billed separately in Texas
Radiologist charges for reading x-rays or other diagnostic tests
Pathologist charge for lab
Diagnostic procedures
Pharmacy charges
Supplies
