About a year ago I signed up for a monthly subscription to the Rivals.com sports website at $10 per month. Everything seemed to go smoothly, but I noticed several days after initial sign-up that the company had charged me for the monthly membership AND for a $100 annual subscription. When I called the company to straighten out this mistake, the woman with whom I spoke stalled for about 20 minutes (putting me on hold several times) before informing me that Rivals.com was a "non-refundable service" and that they "could not" refund my money for the annual service that I neither requested nor purchased. I told them to cancel my entire account and that I would seek another avenue of resolution. In a state of shock and anger, I called my credit card company and they promised to investigate the matter. The next day I received a call from the bank saying that they had also been stonewalled by Rivals.com customer service and that I would get credited by the bank for the charge.

A year later I was checking my credit card statement online and noticed a charge from Rivals.com of $100. I couldn't believe it. Rivals.com actually had the nerve to make a totally unauthorized and fraudulent charge out of the blue after the initial fiasco that they caused for me. I called my bank again and they again called Rivals.com and were again stonewalled by customer service. Rivals.com again claimed that once the transaction was done, they "could not" give any refunds. This time the bank issued me a new credit card to prevent this from ever occurring again.

Rivals.com is actually a major site that is affiliated with Yahoo.com. This fact made me feel that I was dealing with a reputable company, but their practices are anything but reputable. In fact, they are blatantly fraudulent. Rivals.com apparently has no compunction about charging peoples' credit cards without their authorization and keeping the money. Don't be fooled by the fact that Rivals has a high profile. They are a dishonest company that is only interested in taking your money--by any means necessary.
