My husband and I decided to build our first home with Robie Homes in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Being new to the home buying experience we did not know what to look for in a builder. As a result the home was placed on a un level piece of property and now it has started to wash away.

When we chose our lot for the home to be placed upon it was on a level piece of land with a slight slope in the back yard. After the completion of the home we were left with a yard that is very sloped and unable to be mowed due to the steepness of the hill.

We had Robie homes come out repair some problems inside the home and at the time the representative for Robie said they would return to re-grade the back yard after the ground thawed.

We called Robie to see when they would return to re-grade the back yard and we were told that there was no problem with the yard and that they would not re-do the land, after their reperesentative had told us that they would return to take care of the problem.

We have since then attempted to call them over and over again and have left several messages but have not gotten anyone to call us back.

Not only did they leave our home with a terrible slope to the back yard there are branches, tree stumps, and rocks making it impossible to grow grass.

My husband and I have spent everything we had saved to purchase this home and it would cost us several thousand dollars to correct the problems that should have been done correctly the first time by Robie Homes.

Just hard for me to believe that this nearly 14 year old post that we believe to be totally misguided at best, is still on the web

AUTHOR: William - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, March 26, 2018

Robie Homes has been building new homes in Martinsburg West Virginia for 29 years, and with nearly 800 new homes built, and with virtually no unresolved issues in that time, we are very proud of our reputation. As developers and builders, selling homes to be built, we have sometimes contracted for homes to be built on lots that have not been fully developed. This is as a result of the significant demand that we had and was largeley attributed to the fact that by pre selling land before all the construction was finalized we were able to pass along carrying charges to our customers in the form of lower prices. When the homes were complete, the purchasers have the option to inspect the finished product and accept it or not. This is covered in our extensive homeowners manual, which we included in our contract in order to avoid any misunderstandings

We have predominantly built in three subdivisions, and our model homes have been at the entrance to the subdivisions and within less than a couple of miles of all of the residents. If we were the way that this semi annonomous person has described we would not have enjoyed the success that we have. Word travels fast in a neighborhood and if there was any truth to the accusations, there would be many more people out of the 800 joining in the report.

There are some fact that I would like to bring up to addresse these accusations.

First, our homeowners manual clearley stated that all communications and complaints were to be in writing. The warranty that virtually all of our customers signed stated the same. This was never intended to duck any issue but rather to have a written account so that we could resolve any issue without a he said she said. The complaitant said that she called many times without any return calls, but this was clearley against the policy that all the employees were well aware of. When the former associate said " Robie always the right thing" it was straight from my meetings. We always dealt with old business before we handled new busness and the service items stayed on our agenda at our weekley meetings until it was resolved

Second: There are many avenues to pursue if a homeowner feels that a builder is not doing the right thing. The easiest and best is the county building department. Another is the state builder licensing department. Both are free to the consumer and designed to help in the kind of accusations that were made against me.

When I first heard about this report I was angry as anyone who has tried to be fair and help mostly first time home buyers would be. I asked my associates to find out who was saying these things. I was angry because the damage to my reputation was significant. With only a first name  and having sold nearly 100 homes in the time period that this could have been my associates believed it was someone who would not admit to filing this report.

I have been aware of this for some time but I have turned the other cheek because I know who I am and what I have done with my life. Unfortunately in this digital age, I have not established a footprint and when I Google myself I find something that is just not true and I have never had a chance to face my accuser. It is not right for someone to say things that are just not true. What about a ripoof report for people that have just been trashed unjustley.

I am happy to have helped so many young people on the path to homeownership. I hope this person has realized over the last 14 years that we did not deserve this

William Robie

Response to the Rebuttal ..tried several times to contact Robie Homes to deal with this situation

I am glad that you had a good experience with Robie Homes, and I have tried several times to contact Robie Homes to deal with this situation in a "non threatning manner" My husband and I have called and left several messages with Robie Homes over the past 4 months. Everytime we call it is the same thing," We get put straight to voice mail and no one ever returns our call. To me that is poor customer service. We gave them every opportunity to call and discuss this in a "NON THREATNING MANNER" and to be quite honest...I don't feel like I have threatned them at all. If I can keep someone else from making the same mistake my husband and I did, which is purchasing a home from them, I will be happy. I am also not the only one who feels this way. Many of my neighbors have made several of the same complaints and they also got no response. All I know is I bought a home with a messed up lot which was not like that in the beginning and now my husband and I can not do anything with it. Not to mention I have wood trim falling off the wall at the stairway and drywall screws coming through the drywall.

Robie Homes always does the right thing

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 19, 2004

As a former associate of Robie Homes, a former homeowner (I purchased the 3rd home the company ever built)I can assure you that the company has and still does approach thier business in a VERY ethical way.

I sold houses for Robie Homes in Wildflower Creek and at one point owned the model home. Bill Robie is a very ethical business man and person. To a fault - he will always err on the side of fairness of the customer.

I know of personal examples of times as an individual he lost money, I mean as much as $13,000 in one instance, to do the right thing and keep his word.

There is always 2 sides - I suggest you approach Mr. Robie in a more non-threatning way and see what the outcome is.
