As a savvy online shopper who's always looking for a good deal, I recently joined this so-called Penny Auction website--ScoreLuxe.com. How it works? Well, you create your free account first, then buy a Bid Package, which ranges from $29.70 to $495 dollars, and then let the bidding begins.

As the timer on the auction counts down towards zero, that auction action picks with the lightning round. Every time a bid is placed on the auction during the lightning round, the price goes up $.01
and additional seconds are added to the auction. You may continue to bid on the auction until the timer reaches 0 and the auction is over. And the highest bidder wins in the end.

Last Friday (April 1,2011), I got my eye on a brand new iPad2 32GB WiFi, and was determined to win it. The lightning round started at 3:30PM, and as the bidding battle heated up, I realized I could never win, because no matter how many bid packages you buy, there's always a bidder who can beat you! So I began to monitor the whole process carefully. By 4:30AM Saturday morning, I calculated that several bidders had been playing this games for 12 hours straight, but more strangely, they had placed their bids for over 600 times, which means they're paying more than what the iPad is worth. By 6:35, the auction was over, and I was right. One bidder named  Notorious, who had been bidding against everybody, won the auction with 1105 bids placed
within 16 hours. And the iPad is sold for $75.65!

Let me break it down for you! $75.65 for an iPad is absolutely a steal, but the price means altogether 7565 bids were placed, and ScoreLuxe earned $7565 dollars for selling the bids. For Notorious, he/she had to pay $1105 dollars for the bids, plus $75.65 for the iPad. What kind of person would sit in front of a computer for 16 hours without taking a break, and then ended up paying $1180.65 dollars for an iPad, which has a retail price for $650? Is it for a charitable cause? NO! The only explanation is ScoreLuxe uses computer-controlled or maybe even real human being Fake Bidders to pressure real customers like me to up our bids again and again.

I have filed complaint reports to my credit card company, New York State Consumer Protection Board, as well as CBS, ABC and Fox News!
