I found myself in serious debt and needed legal advice desperately. I called Shoemakers office and spoke with a lady named Stepanie who claimed she was an attorney. I told her about my situation and that I was 15k in cc debt and 350k in debt on a house that is in foreclosure. I had filed bankruptcy before in 2000. She said that according to her experience, it would be better if I consolidated my debt. I asked what I should do about my house and she said that I could just walk away and that they wouldn't come after me.She also said that I was ineligible to file. I didn't feel to confident about her advice. I spoke with a few of my co workers and they advised me to call another bankruptcy office. I called another attorney and he informed me that I was eligible to file given that the timeline is 8 yrs and that my lender would indeed go after me! He also said that I would get a 1099 on the difference. I can't believe the advice that she gave me! After I spoke with the attorney I called Shoemakers office and spoke with the same lady again. I acted like I was a potential client and told her the same story. She gave the same bad advice as she did before and this time she said that she was just a manager. From my understanding, why would a manager at a law firm give advice? If I would have known that she was just a manager I wouldn't have told her my situation and asked for her advice. I'm just glad that I didn't end up going with their services and possibly getting ripped off. That lady is bad news!!!!

I apologize for you negative experience with my office

AUTHOR: Scott - ()

POSTED: Friday, March 28, 2014

I am genuinely sorry that you had a negative experience with my office.  I strive to ensure that everyone is given the highest quality service and legal advice.  I’m sorry that you felt mislead.  I was not part of the phone calls that you describe so I can’t really comment on what was said.  Needless to say, my present paralegal is highly knowledgeable but knows that he is not permitted to give legal advice.  Anyone who asks for me directly will get my personal and complete attention.

Obviously I don’t know if Stephanie (the employee of whom you speak) gave you legal advice or if she simply gave you legal information, which she is permitted to do.  Imparting knowledge is perfectly acceptable for trained paralegals.  Advising you on your best course of action is not.  That’s my job and I take those responsibilities very seriously.

As for Stephanie and Jaimi’s responses above, I never authorized those rebuttals and I certainly don’t endorse them.  They wrote those reviews on their own and without consulting me.  My present paralegal is extremely professional and I strive to ensure that no one comes away as unhappy as you did.

I actually know the person who said all that. It was that Linda Maxine chick that applied here for a job and we turned her down cause of lack of experience. Her new coworker even admitted that she said that. Some people are idiots. Get a life. She's lucky we aren't suing her due to false accusations.

Mistaken Identity!!

AUTHOR: Scot Shoemaker - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, May 09, 2011

Regarding rip-off report #440359 there has been a mistake in the spelling of the entity complained about. A quick search on the California State Bar website (click link below) will reveal a "Scott Shumaker" and a "Scot Shoemaker".  The problem in this Rip-Off report is that the person complaining used "Shoemaker".  I am Attorney Scot Shoemaker and am not the person complained about in this report. This should be corrected by the person who made this report or the editor.

Inaccurate Information

AUTHOR: Stephanie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 15, 2009

This information is completely inaccurate. I have never said I am an attorney nor have I ever given legal advice over the telephone or in person to anyone. I answer questions that potential clients may have. I inform people of their options. You are eligible for a chapter 7 discharge every 8 years so Miss Maxine is able to file again. I tell everyone that they can receive a 1099 for the forgiven amount on their mortgage in a foreclosure without filing Bankruptcy. I have many happy clients and do apologise if Miss Maxine miss-understood my answers to her questions. But everything that she is stating is completely un-true!
