Sequels Consignment and Boutique Unscrupulous. Took advantage of a recent widow Cincinatti Ohio

My step-father passed away recently and my 71 year old mother called Sequels to consign many of her belongings while she relocated out of State. They showed up with a 15 ft moving truck and filled it to the rim. They made a "verbal" contract with my mother for a 60/40 split (60% for my mom) They told my mom that a written contract was not necessary because they considered her a friend.

The items were furniture (many of them antiques), artwork, jewelry and heirlooms. The approximate value was close to $8000.00  Over a year went by and many of the items were not even removed from the truck as they remained stored in the parking lot. We finally asked for three items back since they were doing no good in thier storage and we picked them up. The remainder of the items remained on the showroom floor. My mother called and emailed them several times asking for updates, but no response.  Six months later we received a call that all items were sold and it was time to settle out.

I brought my mom to the store. We asked for a detailed inventory sheet because the one Sequels sent did not match ours. The owner, woman named Penni, could not provide a detailed inventory sheet and proof of sales. REALLY??? We received a check for 40% of sales. When we asked why they would not honor the 60% agreed upon, Penni told us we should have done a written contract.

We are aware of the fact that consignment is a variable, and did not expect full market value for the items, but we are disgusted that proof of sales, and inventory sheets could not be provided. The owners are rude and dishonest. The co-owner, Tom, did not even have the decency to come out from behind his "cave" in the back of the store and deal with this issue.

THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT ELDERLY WIDOWS OF RETIRED, ORDAINED MINISTERS!!  Someone they considered a "friend".
