Ms. Smethurst sold me an 11-week old puppy that I took to my vet per her 2-day requirement to do so.  I guess she did not think I would.   The puppy had an inguinal hernia.  The vet told me that while it did not pose an immediate health risk, it probably would require surgery.  I specifically told Ms. Smethurst that I was going to breed the puppy.  The vet also indicated that it could post a problem with a possible rupture during a pregnancy/delivery and that offspring of the puppy could also inherit the hernia as it is an hereditary trait.  She indicated to me that all of her puppies had been vet checked when clearly any competent vet would have discovered this hernia just as my vet did (and Ms. Smethurst saw when I returned the puppy).

When I called Ms. Smethurst about the issue, she became very defensive with me.  I had to threaten her with taking her to court before she said she would take the puppy back.

Initially Ms. Smethurst gave me a $200.00 discount toward the purchase of two puppies (one was kept by a friend of mine despite the apparent future risk).  When I returned one, she deducted the $200.00 discount and refused to return the $950 I had paid for this puppy, only returning $750.  This was after less than 24 hours.

I would never deal with this breeder again.

rebutal on Adria Evans Garcia

AUTHOR: Sheila Smethurst - (United States of America)

Yes I sold  Miss Adria Garcia 2 puppys and gave her a 200.00 discount, 100 off each puppy if she both both so they could stay together, they were sisters. It means more to me for the 2 puppys to be happy together than the additional 200.00 that I would make. Mis Garcia said I told her my puppys were vet checked and that I said I have all my puppys vet checked. I never said that nor to I intend to do that, because in my contract it is required ofthe new owner of the puppy. Yes one of the girl puppys had a tiny hernia down on the inside of her back leg and I was totally not aware it was there, I was in shock when she called me the next day and shouted I am bring this puppy back now and I want my money back. She has a hernia. I said I was shocked was she sure, I hadnt seen the hernia. She said She had a letter from her vet. I said OK bring her back. She never had to threaten me that she would take me to court if I didnt take the puppy back, that was something she made up to add to her story she wrote up on me. I took the puppy and examined her and yes I saw the tiny hernia, it wasnt a health risk at all  according to the letter she brought from her vet. She was more upset over the 200 discount I held out of her refund due to return of the puppy. The discount was for purchasing the 2 sisters so they could be together, and now they are not. I am going to have the hernia repaired even though it is not a threat to her health at the cost of 75.00. This is less than the discount I gave for the 2 sister yorkies to be together. The jest of this rip off report to me is all about the 200.00 discount I gave due to my heart felt emotions I have for my yorkies to have each other as companions. I have done this many times, I guess some people always think you owe them something when they never had it in the first place. The point is she is upset over loosing 200.00 that wasnt hers in the first place. She could of given me both puppys back andgot a full refund.  I cant understand the lies people tell due to money and loose site of the real issue, the puppys. They are what matters to me, thats why she is here at home!
