Juan quoted the job after looking at the property. Since his friend and his wife worked with my wife and business was slow, he said he'd give us a deal. 

I provided the laminate and padding and misc. Supplies. It was agreed that he'd prep and install laminate for $500. He later offered to provide the tile and tile the kitchen for an extra $200. We paid $350 up front.

He cashed the check that day and removed the old carpeting the day after. After not coming back for 2 days, he showed up Saturday to drop off a helper.

The helper did  a horrible job pulling up tack strips and laying padding on some of the floor. Juan never returned after promising to be back in an hour. Nor did

he call to say where the heck he was. He put in a full day Sunday with the helper and got a bit of a hallway done. 

He called Monday and claimed to need another $150 asap, mostly to pay his helper. He now told me the price wasn$850. He called later to say he needed cash.

When I got home from work, very little additional work was done. He took every single tool of his when he left. My month old couch was standing on it's side. He finally quit the job when I explained I was unwilling to give him any more money until the job was at least half done. I made it clear I would pay the extra $150. 

Of 50 boxes of laminate, he only installed 8. He also took his tile with him when he left.
