I went to "Smart Style Family Hair Salon" in Winder, Georgia to get a "trim." I donate my hair to "Locks of Love" every year and was going to donate my hair soon but first I wanted to trim a couple of inches off. I went in, explained what I wanted and what I planned on doing with my hair. The only person cutting hair that day was a Spanish speaking girl and I had a hard time understanding her but, against my better judgement, I went ahead and let her cut my hair. SHE CUT SIX (6) OR SEVEN (7) INCHES OFF OF MY HAIR!!! SHE HAD MY TURNED IN THE CHAIR SO I COULD NOT SEE MYSELF IN THE MIRROR SO I COULD NOT SEE WHAT SHE WAS DOING!! WHEN I ASKED HER HOW LONG SHE HAD BEEN CUTTING HAIR AND SHE TOLD ME SIX (6!!!!) MONTHS, I SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED MY INSTINCT AND RAN OUT OF THERE!! BUT, I DIDN'T! WHEN I GOT HOME, I REALIZED THAT SHE HAD GAPPED MY HAIR SO BAD THAT I COULDN'T DONATE MY HAIR FOR ANOTHER 6 MONTHS, AT LEAST! UNDERNEATH, MY HAIR WAS ABOUT 3 INCHES SHORTER THAN THE OUTER LAYER OF MY HAIR!!!!! WHEN I WENT BACK TO TALK TO HER ABOUT THIS, SHE WOULD RUN IN THE BACK ROOM! I FINALLY TALKED TO THE MANAGER OF THE STORE AND SHE SAID THAT THIS GIRL HAS BEEN WRITTEN UP SEVEN (7!!!) TIMES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT!!!!!! SHE SAID THE THE REGIONAL MANAGER WOULD NOT LET HER FIRE HER!!! I CALLED THIS SO CALLED, REGIONAL MANAGER, LEFT A MESSAGE AND HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK FROM HER!!! HER NAME IS VERONICA!
DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR CUT AT THIS LOCATION!!!!!!!!

You have to donate at least 10 inches of hair

To donate to locks of love, you have to donate at least 10 inches of hair at a time. So, I'm not sure that you actually donate every year, unless your hair grows unusually fast. Most hair grows at a rate of 6 inches a year. You shouldn't exxagerate your post, it does not make it more credible. If it is truly a Rip-Off, the truth would suffice.

That attitude is exactly why chain salons will always be the laughing stock of hair salons (and why people would rather spend a huge amount of money for a more experienced stylist to do their hair). There are some great stylists at Smart Style and other places, but there's some rotten ones, too. And the rotten ones (when confronted with an unhappy customer) throw that "It's just hair" BS on the table. The young lady should have learned to follow instructions FIRST, then she should have learned how to cut hair BEFORE she started working at SS. I mean, isn't that what they're supposed to teach you in cosmetology school? They did at mine. I think the customer was very correct in being upset about the matter. However,I will tell all hair customers this: if your gut is telling you to get up and go, you better get up and go. If you have a bad feeling about the stylist, the salon, etc. then you need to excuse yourself BEFORE scissors get put to hair. Once that hair is gone, it's gone. You as the customer have every right to leave if you don't think something is going right (before the service starts, mind you). And if you choose to stay, don't sit there like a mime. If you feel someone isn't cutting enough (or about to cut too much), speak up and say so.
As far as Smart Style offering classes, that's a load. At least where I worked. Our "education" consisted of sitting and listening to the old British guy on the DVD's for 45 minutes at a monthly meeting. That's it. Smart Style never has and never will give two craps about their employees-why do you think they have such a high turnover rate? Mainly because the ones who worked their butts off get the shaft and the unprofessional ones are still around. I'm very surprised that this company has not shut down completely because of their practices.
Bottom line: the stylist should have learned basic cutting skills in school and definitely should have learned how to follow instructions from the client. The client should have gone with her gut and bolted if she didn't think things were going to turn out right. And the "it's just hair-get over it" mentality is the reason why some clients often haveus good stylists lumped in withthe unprofessional ones who are just in it to drink Cokes and gossip all day.

It's just hair

This stylist is new and Smart Style is famous for hiring recent school grads, so you should have known you would get someone inexperienced. I don't think it's right for you to dog this poor girl when she paid thousands of dollars for school and spent a good part of a year going to school, studying hard for her state test, then when she starts working, she gets dogged online by some idiot. Every stylist, myself included, has messed up people's hair after starting, that's just part of the deal of doing hair. In your type of business, do you please EVERY customer? Of course not. Do they dog you online? Smartsyles takes their less experienced stylists and sends them to classes to help them. Firing them is not something they do easily, especially if the stylist shows a desire to learn and get better. So just go get your hair fixed somewhere and get off of the internet.

The only thing Wal mart is good for is groceries. I never understand why people get personal services from them.
